Soon-to-be three-time Best Actor-nominated actor Timothee Chalamet has recently defended the outsized nature of his Marty Supreme press tour. According to Chalamet, similar to an athlete, he’s “leaving it all out on the field.”

While Marty Supreme is the most expensive movie that A24 has ever made, it’s still a box office underdog as it’s an original, non-IP drama film set in 1950s New York City. That’s where Timothee Chalamet comes in.

With Chalamet as its star, Marty Supreme has one of the biggest movie stars in the world at its forefront, and Chalamet has been sure to use that cache to hype up the project as much as possible. So far, his gamble seems to be working, as the film made $875K from 6 theaters this weekend, which is the biggest per theater average gross for a film in almost a decade.

Chalamet’s press tour for Marty Supreme as been extensive, with recent highlights including appearing on top of the Las Vegas Sphere, featuring on a remix of the song “4 Raws” by Liverpool rapper EsDeeKid, getting massive stars as Tom Brady, Lamine Yamal and others to wear official Marty Supreme merch.

Timothee Chalamet has defended the outsized nature of his Marty Supreme press tour, argues this is what it takes to sell an original movie

During a recent interview, Chalamet explained the rationale behind his all-or-nothing press tour, arguing that this is what it takes to sell an original movie.

“This is in the spirit of Marty, and I feel like this is ultimately an original film at a time when original movies aren’t really put out. It’s a movie about the pursuit of a dream. I’m leaving it on the field. Whether it’s the merch or the Zoom or the media appearances, I’m trying to get this out in the biggest way possible. In the spirit of Marty Mauser,” the two-time Oscar nominated actor told IndieWire.

Marty Supreme, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher, will be released in movie theaters nation wide on Christmas Day.
