Timothée Chalamet is making a strong case for being one of the best actors of his generation.
Chalamet hasn’t been shy about his latest performances, which he has called “top of the line.”
“This is probably my best performance, and it’s been like seven, eight years that I feel like I’ve been handing in really, really committed, top-of-the-line performances.
“And it’s important to say out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things, I don’t want people to take for granted. I don’t want to take for granted. This is really some top-level sh-t.”
Chalamet took his acting so seriously in ‘Marty Supreme’ that he refused to use a butt double during a spanking scene that took about 40 takes and went on for hours, according to co-star Kevin O’Leary.
“When it came time to whack him, there was a stunt a–. There was a double. [Chalamet] wouldn’t do it. He said he’ll do it himself. He didn’t want some other a– immortalized,” Kevin O’Leary tells Variety. “Josh [Safdie] was saying, ‘You’ve got to wind up harder.’ I was really whacking him.”
“Josh was saying, ‘You’ve got to wind up harder,’” O’Leary remembers. “I was really whacking him.”
Chalamet wasn’t lying when he said he was pursuing greatness with his acting.
“You don’t want to risk being too declarative,” he told Vogue. “But I also don’t want to look back on life and things I’ve put out and go, ‘Oh, little old me. Hey, see the movie if you want. It is what it is.’ No. At worst, you’ve rubbed people the wrong way. And at best, someone will get pulled in and go, ‘Hey, this guy really thinks this thing’s worthy.’ ”
Chalamet is currently the favorite to win the Oscar for Best Actor, with Leonardo DiCaprio a close second.
