After previously acquiring the streaming rights to the SAG Awards, Netflix acquired full control of the project last year and officially rebranded it to the Actor Awards for this year’s ceremony. The night was full of viral moment’s including Michael B. Jordan’s win for Best Actor for his work in the dual roles of Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.

From acting legend Viola Davis bursting with pride to his old pal Jesse Plemons’ celebration; from his mentor Delroy Lindo embracing him to the very emotional of Michael B. Jordan himself, the win was a reminder that some Hollywood stars, despite all of the fame and fortune attached to their careers, are truly committed to their craft.

Michael B. Jordan’s win at the Actor Awards may prove to be the final blow in Timothee Chalamet’s Best Actor campaign for the Academy Awards

Perhaps the only person in the room who wasn’t overcome with joy, however, was Timothee Chalamet, who has been openly gunning hard to win the Academy Award this year and has been the frontrunner for the last few months.

While Chalamet still maintains a slight edge at around -110, Jordan has skyrocketed up to second favorite with +150, which absolutely puts him in contention to pull off the upset. Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another+1500), Wagner Moura (+2000, The Secret Agent) and Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon,+3000) are now all firmly long shots to take home the Oscar later this month.

The Hollywood trades also believe that Chalamet’s race may be run.

“Jordan’s win was critical, not only for his personal campaign but also for his film’s path to best picture,” reported Variety.

“Timothée Chalamet’s prospects for Marty Supreme have all but evaporated. For weeks, his campaign style drew significant criticism from industry professionals and voters, and he may have to wait a little longer for his first Oscar. I’ve long believed this season might ultimately belong to four-time nominee Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon — and that’s still theoretically possible. But what I’ve grown increasingly confident in is that Chalamet would not emerge victorious. We just needed to figure out who would. Sunday at the Actor Awards may have answered that.”

Chalamet’s odds on those prediction markets is has also now dropped to around 50% after previously being as high as nearly 80%. That said, winning the SAG Award for Best Actor is not necessarily a harbinger of winning at the Oscars, as Chalamet took home the prize at the ceremony last year (for A Complete Unknown) but walked away empty-handed at the Academy Awards a few weeks later.
