The first teaser trailer for the mysterious new Alejandro G. Iñárritu movie starring Tom Cruise has been released, providing the first look at the movie in addition to its official title: Digger. Digger will be released on October 2, 2026.
Digger is set to be Tom Cruise’s first purely dramatic role since starring in American Made in 2017. While plot details have been kept under wraps, the film will see the Hollywood legend star as “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
Alongside Cruise, Digger is set to star Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman.

Some movie fans are hoping that his role in Digger will help Cruise follow the same path as the iconic Paul Newman, who won his Academy Award for Best Actor a year after being given an honorary Oscar. Earlier this year, Cruise was given an honorary Oscar for his decades of achievements in Hollywood.
Cruise has been previously nominated for three acting Oscars and one producing Oscar: Best Actor for Born on the Fourth of July (1990) and Jerry Maguire (1997), Best Supporting Actor for Magnolia (2000), and Best Picture as a producer for Top Gun: Maverick (2023).
