Hollywood legend Tom Cruise was given an Honorary Academy Awards at the Governor Awards over the weekend and was thus the talk of the town over the weekend.

In addition to giving his predictably on-point acceptance speech and breaking it down on the dance floor, Tom Cruise was also spotted chatting it up with actress Sydney Sweeney, who was also in attendance at the event.

Given the outsized personalities of the pair and the choices in their personal lives, jokes were flying on social media about what the pair could have possibly been talking about.

In addition to numerous “STAY AWAY FROM HIM!” tweets, Scientology jokes, and barbs about Sweeney’s recent controversies, another popular strain of tweet were people calling for Cruise to put her in the in-development third Top Gun movie.

“The cinema, it takes me around the world,” Cruise said during his speech. “It helps me to appreciate and respect differences. It shows me also our shared humanity, how alike we are in so, so many ways. And no matter where we come from, in that theater, we laugh together, we feel together, we hope together, and that is the power of this art form.”

After starring in what is allegedly his final Mission: Impossible movie earlier this year, Cruise will next be seen starring in Alejandro Iñárritu still-untitled 2026 film that will see Cruise star as “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
