Topgolf is a popular date spot for prospective couples to enjoy drinks and golf games while getting to know each other. However, one Atlanta-based woman warns that frequenting the chain with multiple dates could get awkward.
In a video with over 410,000 views, TikToker Opey Love (@opeylove) shares a sped-up video of herself logging into the Topgolf computer.
At Topgolf, participants can rent a private bay by the hour. A server stops by each bay to take food and drink orders as guests play a variety of golf games. So, couples can end a bad date after one round or keep extending their playtime if they want to keep chatting.
But the TikToker notes that Topgolf may accidentally air out the business of returning players.
On-screen text reads, “POV when I’m at Topgolf and it automatically brings my name up indicating I’ve been here with a different [man].”
She implies she has been on several dates at Topgolf, which could create an awkward situation if a new date notices she already has an account.
How Could Topgolf Accounts Expose Dating History?
While Topgolf doesn’t publicly share who players came with before, there is a way previous dates could accidentally come to light.
If players make an account and sign in before their game, Topgolf will store their stats and player history. This means that dates with a keen eye may be able to spot the usernames of previous dates if they take a look at the game history. So, don’t be too quick to pull up the app and compare stats.
However, Topgolf customers can also opt to play as a guest without saving their name, how well they swung, or who they played with. This may be a better option for those who frequent Topgolf on first dates.
Have Other Dates Caught On?
Others said the Topgolf account history can create weird situations on first dates, as seen in the TikTok’s comments.
“My ex made my last name his last name on mine bruh,” one said. Another commenter responded that they had to sneakily resolve the same situation on a date.
They wrote, “DUDE, this happened to me when my bf took me. I had to be discreet and ask an employee to change it before he saw. U can do it on the app!!”
However, a few viewers said they don’t mind the awkwardness, even if their date notices.
“Well yes I’ve dated men before this guy,” another said candidly.
“No this is where I bring em too, and it’s funny,” a third added.
Some suggested ways to cover up previous dates at the golf chain.
“Just tell them you were there for Logan’s work party,” a commenter said, referencing the viral Topgolf meme.
“Don’t worry, just say you went with me,” a second joked.
