Billy Ray Cyrus was just one of the several musicians to perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on Monday. But Cyrus’ performance stood out more than most for all the wrong reasons. The “Achy Breaky Heart” performer’s behavior was erratic. He sounded incoherent, and, after multiple technical failures, seemed to refuse to leave the stage.
“I don’t hear my guitar anymore,” Cyrus said at one point. “Check. Is anybody awake? I don’t hear it. Where’s everybody at? Is anyone back there? Can someone turn my guitar back on? Do you y’all want me to sing more, or do you want me to get off stage? I was like, these people are probably tired of hearing the same music over and over. They want to party.”
The behavior worried fans online who expressed concerns over Cyrus’ health. It also seemingly concerned his family, including son Trace, who took to Instagram to pen a message to his adoptive father.
Trace Cyrus Pens Instagram Note Hoping To Reach Billy Ray After Inauguration
“Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now,” Trace wrote on Instagram. “It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point.
“Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away. Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life and you haven’t even been there for her. That’s your baby girl. She deserves better. Somehow just like me she still idolizes you though.
“We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it.”
Trace, then talks about his own battle with alcohol addiction and suggests that Billy Ray might be dealing with somethings similar.
“I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes I will continue to pray for you.”
Unlike his sister Miley, Trace seems to genuinely want to reconcile with his step-father. It’s a heartbreaking situation and one that doesn’t appear to be heading toward a happy ending.
