‘Is This A Sign..?’: Shopper Opens Their Trader Joe’s Letter Cookies. Then They Pick One Up, Read What It Says

A Trader Joe’s customer opened a package of cookies and received a hilarious and unexpected suggestion. Viewers joked that the package suggested their New Year’s resolution.

In a video with over 2.5 million views, TikToker Laiya (@lifeoflaiya) takes the plastic lid off of a container of Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Schoolbook Cookies. The cookies are shaped like individual letters that could be used to spell out words on desserts.

However, they notice three letters stuck together: G-Y-M. They hold up the newly formed word, “Gym.”

On-screen text asks, “Is this a sign?”

Comments joked about the word, saying they would pretend not to see the “sign” that could point to a high-effort New Year’s resolution.

“It stands for ‘get your McDonald’s,'” one said.

“‘Get yourself more,'” another wrote, suggesting an alternative meaning.

A third joked, “I think this means you will meet a man named Gym (pronounced Jim, like how Geoff is Jeff).”

What Do Other Customers Use The Cookies For?

While it’s less common for Trader Joe’s customers to use the cookies to decide their New Year’s resolutions, others on social media shared what the cookies are typically purchased for.

“Very much a beginner cake decorator… the cinnamon cookies saved me from having to pipe lettering. I think it turned out pretty cute!” one Redditor on r/traderjoes shared with a picture of a birthday cake.

A Trader Joe’s fan page on Instagram suggests simply playing with the cookies—with or without children. They post their own creation reading, “Trader Joe’s Fans.”

Other commenters suggest using the edible letters as an engaging way to teach kids how to read.

Have Other Customers Spotted Words In The Cookies?

In the comments, other shoppers said they’ve received bizarre messages through the popular cookies.

“Mine made me feel welcomed,” one said, showing a picture of cookies spelling “Hi.”

Another shared, “Mind you I was waiting on my MRI results to see whether or not I had pancreatic cancer.” The cookies spell out “Dead.”

A third said their friend had a similar experience with a fortune cookie. They wrote, “We begged our friend, who was a college athlete, to come with us to Panda Express. She really didn’t want to but gave in. Her fortune cookie said ‘indulgence hinders the spirit’ and she fully crashed out.”

One commenter even suggested that the stuck-together cookies may not be an accident.

They claim that they worked for the factory that makes the letter cookies. “I used to work in their factory, and I would purposely stick them together,” they wrote.
