Sirloin remains one of the most popular steak cuts in the United States. It is lauded for its “beefy” flavor alongside its price point, as it’s typically one of the more affordable steak options.
Since prepping and grilling steaks can be time-consuming, pre-cut versions are readily accessible at select grocery stores for convenience. As New York-based TikTok creator Wyatt Gillespie (@wyguyg) learned, Trader Joe’s is one of them. After making this discovery, he took to social media to spread the word.
“I don’t know if you guys knew this, but Trader Joe’s sells pre-cut sirloin steak,” he says as he sits at his table, holding a fork. “Take a look at this.” When he pans the camera to his plate, he reveals two rows of thin, pinkish, thinly sliced steak pieces. Then, the content creator turns the camera to reveal his jaw dropped in surprise.
“Dang, bro. How did I not know this existed?” he asks, switching back to the steak and his face. “Yo, I mean. Come on.”
Essentially, Gillespie is ruminating in his disbelief. “I FEEL LEFT OUT,” he captions the video.
According to the comments section, he only paid $12 for it.
What Is Trader Joe’s Pre-Cut Sirloin Steak?
These 16-ounce sirloin steaks come pre-cooked and pre-sliced from 100% grass-fed cattle seasoned in sea salt and pepper, according to the packaging. Described as “rich flavor and tender texture in every bite,” it can be enjoyed at different temperatures—cold, room, or warmed up in the oven or microwave. Because the meat is perishable, leftovers must be refrigerated.
Viewers Have Mixed Opinions
Gillespie’s video garnered over 65,000 views since Feb. 5. Trader Joe’s customers who have already tried the pre-cut sirloin steaks shared their own ratings. Needless to say, the grocery store good is polarizing.
“Oh I always get this. It’s so good,” one viewer praised.

Redditors either “really enjoyed” the Trader Joe’s steak or found it “super disappointing.” However, some noted the flavor varied by region. One believed it tasted “delicious” in Florida and “absolutely disgusting” in California. According to Tasting Table, Trader Joe’s sources their products and ingredients from local vendors, hence why the steak may taste different at other stores.
