A shocking video captured a runaway boat trailer crashing over the center median on a busy California freeway earlier this week. Making the whole scene even crazier, the driver who was hauling it didn’t even stop.

The boat landed in the westbound lanes in southeast Los Angeles County, California, after flying over the 91 Freeway’s center median. It went sailing over the center divider wall and crashed into the carpool lane after appearing to have broken loose from a U-Haul trailer on the eastbound side.

A driver’s dashcam captured the runaway boat crash

A westbound Tesla driving in the passing lane in Bellflower captured the event on camera. The driver of the Tesla barely escaped suffering significant harm.

“I’m driving, and I’m looking, and I’m like, ‘There is an expletive boat!'” the Tesla driver, Cassandra Sorrell, told KABC News. “I had seconds to respond. I mean, it was surreal.”

“I braced myself very, very tightly for impact. I was certain I was going to hit the boat,” Sorrell continued. She also added that she suffered whiplash and that her Tesla sustained some minor scratches.

Authorities are searching for the driver who left the scene

The runaway boat crash caused the California Highway Patrol to close the roadway for at least two hours. The authorities are reportedly seeking the driver of the U-Haul, who continued driving after the boat broke away.

“What I understand from the CHP is they contacted the registered owner of the boat. The registered owner is claiming that they sold the boat, and they don’t know who they sold the boat to. I mean, that’s a little fishy,” Sorrell said. “Please help us find who was driving.”
