English comedian and actor Russell Brand was recently charged with numerous charges in the United Kingdom stemming from incidents of alleged sexual assault between 1999 and 2005. The allegations against Brand come from four separate women.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Russell Brand, 49 years old, has been charged with “one allegation of r—, one allegation of indecent assault, one of oral r— and two further counts of sexual assault,” via The BBC.
Brand, who was best known in the United States for his roles in the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, has pivoted into conspiracy theories, conservative politics and Christianity in recent years, speaking about those topics and others on his YouTube channel.
Warner Bros., the studio behind the 2011 Brand vehicle Arthur, his only lead role, has reportedly offered police upwards of four hours of outtake footage from the set of the film for their investigation.
“Brand was sued in 2023 in a lawsuit brought by an extra on the 2010 romantic comedy Arthur, starring Brand. The alleged victim, using the pseudonym Jane Doe, accused the British actor and comedian of exposing himself to cast members before sexually assaulting her in a lavatory on set. Both Brand and Warner Bros, which is also named as a defendant, deny the allegations.”
“It also emerged that Warner Bros had offered to hand over outtakes of Brand in Arthur as part of evidence. Patrick Lamparello, a lawyer for Warner Bros, said the company had ‘some hours of video outtake footage … four or five hours, it could be more, around eight.'” [via The Times]
In addition to the confirmed charges in his native United Kingdom, recent reports indicate that Brand could also face criminal charges in the United States, too.
