South Carolina Server Takes Man’s Whiskey Drink Order—Then He Hands Her A Plastic Card To Make Sure She Gets It Right: ‘I Need That For My Old Fashions’

A South Carolina server approached a man sitting in her section and asked him if he’d like something to drink. Instead of ordering something off of the menu, he handed her a plastic recipe card. Bartenders are split on whether the move is convenient or just plain rude.

In a video with over 734,000 views, TikToker Lori (@notannoyinglybetter) wears an apron and shows off the card while she stands in the kitchen.

“This man handed me his card for his drink that he likes,” she says, flipping the card over. The ingredients are 2 ounces of Jameson Whiskey, 4 ounces of ginger ale, and 1/2 ounce of amaretto liqueur.

“I think that’s pretty f—— smart,” she remarks.

Is It Rude To Give A Bartender A Recipe Card?

Bartenders share split opinions online on the recipe card trend.

BroBible previously reported on a viral TikTok in which a bartender asks others how they would feel if they received one of the plastic cards. While some say they’d happily honor the request, with a possible upcharge, others say they’d flat-out refuse.

Other picky customers on the r/bartenders subreddit question whether it’s okay for them to make specific requests, down to the ingredients and ratios. Bartenders share how they’d handle the situation.

“I wouldn’t mind if you just asked for a tequila Manhattan with orange bitters/a little bit of cherry syrup, but if you specifically told me how many drops of orange bitters you’d want, I’d ask if you wanted to make it yourself just to f—- with you,” one joked.

Another said, “Depends on how busy the bar is/what kind of bar we’re talking about. If it was a Sat night and you’re one of 20+ asking for a drink and I have tickets printing out, I’m not hearing you.”

Do Viewers Agree With The Bar Customer?

In the comments, other bar-goers said the recipe card is a clever way to guarantee your drink comes out right every time.

“Ok this is genius because I ordered a Mai Tai yesterday and it was AWFUL. The one from my usual spot is,” a commenter wrote.

“Some of us like our classic cocktails made correct to the recipe,” another suggested. “For me at least, nothing is more annoying that a bartender that wants to put their own ‘creative’ twist on a cocktail.”

A third viewer said, “This is smart when you’re particular. Having it be plastic is a good idea too.”

However, some suggested he’s being over the top.

“Sir this is a Wendy’s,” one joked.

“That’s quite an order for Starbucks,” a second quipped.
