As a rule, if a restaurant or bar has a menu that doesn’t have any prices on it, you have a couple of choices. The first is to resign yourself to the fact that you’re about to spend too much money and mentally prepare to avoid audibly gasping when you eventually get the bill. The second is to politely gather your things, pretend someone is calling you, and walk out the door, never to return again. You might have noticed neither of those options involve asking someone how much something costs— if you have to do that, you shouldn’t be there in the first place.

A Las Vegas-based radio host named Spence recently shared a story concerning a dinner where he decided to exercise the first option after being presented with a priceless menu. His wife decided to get him some WhistlePig whiskey on the rocks, which will run you a fair amount of money at most places. However, I doubt either of them expected to see a $125 charge on the bill when the meal ended.

It turns out that she’d accidentally gotten a shot of the distillery’s Boss Hog label, a 14-year-old, barrel-strength variation of their flagship whiskey. After paying the bill, Spence jokingly launched a GoFundMe to try to crowdfund his drink, and which was eventually contributed to by an unexpected donor: WhistlePig itself.

According to WCAX, The DJ never intended to keep the money, and he eventually reached his goal (and more) and matched the total amount raised before donating $335 to the St. Baldrick’s Children Cancer Research Foundation.
