A wild boar wandered through automated glass doors and entered a home goods store, causing mayhem at a shopping mall in Germany on Friday morning.
According to Berlin Police, at around 9 a.m. local time, the wild boar entered the mall through the sliding glass doors and began digging through the store’s aisles, prompting employees to quickly evacuate.
Berlin’s Tierpark Zoo informed AFP that after sending a crew to the site in the southeast Koepenick area, they soon determined “that sedating the animal was not possible due to the layout of the premises.”
The wild boar in the mall led to a wild response from authorities
After authorities temporarily closed the mall, a crew of police officers and veterinarians, equipped with a tranquilizer gun, riot shields, and a blowgun, attempted to wrangle the wild boar, according to CBS News.
Police and the team from the zoo ultimately determined that it was best to just try and drive the boar out of the mall. So they constructed “a path using wooden pallets” and “the wild boar then returned to the forest, which we assume it came from.”
According to AFP, wild boars have wandered through populated areas in Berlin, which is surrounded by forests, on numerous occasions. In fact, one that wandered the streets of southwest Berlin in the middle of 2023 caused a bit of a panic when people initially confused for a lioness.
