Charleston, West Virginia locals are somber this week as they prepare to say goodbye to a longstanding town establishment.

A Hooters in the Kanawha City neighborhood is set to be demolished on Friday, and to honor years of exemplary service, restaurant goers are gathering for a candlelight vigil.

Here’s more from Whiskey Riff:

The beloved restaurant closed its doors in 2020 and has sat empty ever since.

While the community held out hope that one day the Hooters would make its triumphant return, unfortunately it seems that the building has officially served its last chicken wing.

It was recently announced that the Hooters building would be demolished to make room for a Sheetz gas station.

The service is now being advertised on Facebook with hopes that the town will come out to pay respects.

“It’s finally official,” the post reads. “We have all, in one way, shape, or form, been holding on to pure hope that someone would purchase the closed building down that once was the almighty Hooters and reopen it. That seems to not be the case…

“Let’s all gather in remembrance of the amazing power that was brought to us all by Hooters with a Candlelight Visual at the Kanawha City Location. Bring your candles and signs and let’s let Hooters and the city know we will miss it tremendously.”

It’s not the first time we’ve seen this type of memorial for a fallen local establishment. Just a few years back, Altoona residents gathered at a Taco Bell that was destroyed in a fire.

Charleston residents will miss this particular Hooters outpost. Hopefully, it gets the sendoff it deserves.
