The season 2 finale of VICE TV‘s United Gangs of America premieres tonight, August 5th, at 9pm, and BroBible has an exclusive clip from the episode highlight details of the Yakuza’s global criminal empire.
The episode will be centered around the Yakuza, Japanese organized crime gangs who trace their roots all the way back to the samurais, as the Yakuza’s formation was nearly a direct result of the 1868 Meiji Restoration displacing the ‘samurai’ from society and pushing them toward a life of organized crime that was only kept from going off the rails by pairing it with elements of the samurai’s code of honor.
I am sharing this exclusive Yakuza clip from VICE TV‘s United Gangs of America not only because it sheds light on the secretive global criminal empire but also because I make an appearance the episode myself.

Exclusive Yakuza Clip from VICE TV’s ‘United Gangs Of America’
In the United States, there has always been an odd obsession with organized crime by Hollywood and the media in general. We LOVE our organized crime and mafia moves: The Godfather, Casino, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Untouchables, Reservoir Dogs, and the list just goes on and on.
I’m probably the furthest thing from an expert in the Yakuza, Japanese organized crime, but was deeply fascinated by Tokyo Vice, the book from author/journalist Jake Adelstein that was later turned into an HBO Max series that I will 100% recommend to anyone and everyone.
Don’t be fooled
While there are some minor elements of romanticizing the Yakuza and organized crime, it still does a fantastic job at showing the Yakuza as the interconnected corrupt criminal empire that it is, with ties all the way to the top of Japanese politics and society.
All of that is to say that this season 2 finale of VICE TV‘s United Gangs of America about the Yakuza is going to be a must-watch for anyone interested in true crime. So check it out and keep on the lookout for me!
