Earlier this week, the first trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s new film Challengers dropped and blew movie fans’ minds when it revealed that the film would be centering on a Zendaya-led love triangle.

If the trailer itself isn’t enough to make you excited about the film then Zendaya’s description of it certainly should, as the rapidly rising A-lister — one of the most popular people on Instagram in the world with over 183 million followers — described it as “fun, sexy and modern with an intense back-and-forth” that includes “a messy, complicated love triangle with a killer score.”

Zendaya made the comment at Warner Bros’ — who have international distribution rights to the film — CineEurope show in Barcelona. MGM, recently acquired by Amazon, has domestic distribution rights.

In addition to being taken aback by the steamy love triangle, one of the main reactions to the trailer were jokes about Tom Holland, who has been in a high-profile relationship with Zendaya for a few years now.

Given that Holland recently and proudly proclaimed that he doesn’t need any “rizz” because he’s happily in love, we’re sure the Marvel Cinematic Universe stalwart is doing just fine. Still, that doesn’t make the jokes at his expense any less hilarious.

Challengers, Guadagnino’s second film over the course of the last year following Bones and All, also stars Josh O’Connor (The Crown) and Mike Faist (West Side Story) alongside Zendaya.

Here is the official synopsis for Challengers, via MGM:

Tennis player turned coach Tashi (Zendaya) has taken her husband, Art (Mike Faist), and transformed him into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a “Challenger” event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend (Josh O’Connor).

The film, which may see Zendaya earn an Oscar nomination (if the Academy were smart), is set to hit theaters on Friday, September 15.
