Bill Pullman’s speech in Independence Day is a rhetorical masterpiece. I get chills just from watching it on YouTube, which is tradition in my household early in the morning every July 4th. It’s a cinematic moment that makes me want to run around in an American flag Speedo screaming Yankee Doddle.
This video from College Humor, however, shows how the news media would ruin it if President Whitmore was actually a real president. All those hot political takes and pundits really take the meaning out of such a special moment.
It’s scary how accurate this video is. What a weird time to be alive.
