Chris Rock Monologue
Chris Rock returned to Saturday Night Live this week and gave an unabashed take on touchy subjects. He begins with how the Boston Marathon Bombings were “probably the most frightening, sadistic terrorist attack ever” because it occurred after people jogged 26 miles where their knees hurt, nipples bled, and they finally get to the finish line where they’re told to run. He then moved onto New York City where he doesn’t think that putting a giant skyscraper exactly in the same place of the attacks of 9/11 is a great idea.
“They should change the name of the Freedom Tower to the ‘I’m never going in there building. Cuz I’m never going in there. Does this building duck? Who’s the corporate sponsor, Target?”
Rock then ridiculed America’s holidays and how they are all capitalistic methods of selling crap. He then ventured to the controversial gun laws debate and how pro-gun advocates actually swayed his opinion on gun ownership.
Shark Tank with ISIS
In a questionable skit that drew audible groans from a very uneasy crowd, the investors from the show Shark Tank get pitched by the terrorist organization ISIS. Shark Tankers are doubtful of the possibility of success since they have a huge branding issue because they go by several names, ISIS, ISIL and IS as well as a sloppy logo. Things go south after ISIS do not receive their request of $400 million investment for a 1-percent stake in their fast-growing organization.
Swiftamine
Great bit on how adults don’t want to love Taylor Swift music, but they just can’t help it.
How’s He Doing
In the reoccurring sketch “How’s He Doing,” Chris Rock is on a PBS show where they discuss how President Barack Obama is handling being leader of the free world. In this episode they discuss how Obama’s approval rating has dropped to 92% among Black voters. Then they debate what it would take for the panel to stop supporting Obama. Some of the potential scenarios presented were if Barack changed his hairstyle to dreadlocks or if his daughters talked back to him in public.
