‘Game Of Thrones’ Recap: Biggest Winners And Losers Of The Season 5 Finale ‘Mother’s Mercy’

LOSERS: Tyrion, Grey Worm, Daario Naharis, Jorah Mormont

After last week’s STRAIGHT FIRE when Drogon showed up, killed all the attacking Sons of the Harpy, and Daenerys flew away on his back…well, I didn’t really know where they were headed. We’re at a point now where the show has completely caught the books, so book readers know nothing more than the TV show watchers. I suspected that Season 5 would fade to black with one of three things happening, and we actually ended up seeing all three of those things come to fruition. One of those things was the Jon Snow stuff (we’ll get to that last), one of them was was Cersei’s walk (we’ll get to that next), and one of them was the long forgotten khalasar (Dothraki armies/herds) swarming her…That happened before the others. As a book reader, in my mind that was going to be tied right there with the Jon Snow stuff with Cersei in 3rd place. After watching the episode the significance of the Dothraki Khalasar scene was AMAZING, but it still fell short of the other two.

So why are the ones listed above considered losers? Let’s get to that pretty quickly.

When abandoning her closest confidants and protectors during attack, Daenerys flew off on Drogon to God knows where, leaving behind the city of Mereen (that she claims to care so much about) with nobody to rule it. Now the men in love with her have to strike out beyond the city walls to find her. Tyrion Lannister who has been there for like a fortnight at best is somehow charged with ruling the entire city because he’s the only one with governing experience….and unbeknownst to any of them Daenerys has just been swarmed by the largest Dothraki Khalasar we’ve ever seen in the show’s history. So they’re more or less on a fool’s errand depending on how this Dothraki stuff shakes out.

Depending on their set of skills they’re either twiddling their thumbs in Mereen now, overseeing the day-to-day governance of the city, hoping they don’t get killed by the Sons of the Harpy. Or if they’re skilled warriors then they’re traveling through the countryside directly towards what looks like the most dangerous army we’ve ever seen (the Dothraki Khalasar).

If I had to choose any of these people to trade places with right now it’d be Tyrion, since he at least has Grey Worm and many of the Unsullied around to protect him. But as we’ve seen time and again the Unsullied are dogshit when it comes to fighting, and aren’t at all as deadly as we were once led to believe they are. Then Varys miraculously shows up to help Tyrion…again, shoddy writing that seems way too convenient, but I’ll accept it.

LOSER: Daenerys Targaryen

She’s alone in the wilderness, with her Drogon, her most formidable of dragons, she has no food, she has no way to bathe herself, she has no protection aside from her dragon who is still nursing his spear wounds from the Sons of the Harpy attack, and Drogon appears intent on sleeping and chilling for the next decade. That alone is a crappy situation for Daenerys. If she was stuck out there with JUST THAT SCENARIO I’d have to say that she was already up shit creek without a paddle, but it gets even worse than that….I think?

We really do not know the intention of the Dothraki Khalasar. Out of nowhere she’s swarmed by quite literally the largest army (Dothraki Khalasar) we’ve ever seen. We don’t know who is in charge of this khalasar, if they know Dany, or even if Dany was their former Khaleesi. All we now at the moment is that tens of thousands of warriors on horseback are riding angry circles around her and Drogon didn’t show up at the moment she was in trouble.

Just look at this shiznit:

I guess we’re all just supposed to sit on our thumbs now until next season to see how all this Khaleesi-Dany stuff shakes out. I’m not too happy by that, but whatever, it’s a solid cliffhanger. She’s 100% the most important of all characters, so I don’t think she’ll die immediately (or ever). That seems like way too big of a circling Dothraki army for just one woman. There has to be something bigger going on here. If she was just some hill witch they’d have knocked her out immediately and taken her as a prisoner, instead the entire Dothraki Khalasar encircled her. Also, Drogon is not too far away, so I suspect that if she screams he’ll come flying in and the Dothraki will all poop their Dothraki leather skirts.

This is the plot line I’m 2nd most interested in seeing where it picks up next season, behind Jon’s (which we’ll get to in just a second, Cersei’s next).
