When I was a kid there were only certain places to watch stand-up specials — HBO and about a hundred different channels on TV. This was during the comedy boom where every network had a stand-up show and Comedy Central played stand-up every hour.
These days there are fewer specials and only a couple places to check them out — HBO (still), Comedy Central, YouTube and Netflix.
Here are five stand-up specials to watch on Netflix today. Right now. GO!
Comedy Camisado — Hannibal Buress
In a special packed with stealthy humor, Hannibal Buress tackles zipper etiquette, the legacy of steroids and the fallout from his Bill Cosby routine.
Buried Alive — Aziz Ansari
‘Parks and Recreation’ star Aziz Ansari takes the stage to share his unfiltered views on adulthood, babies, marriage, love and more in the modern era.
War Paint — Iliza Shlesinger
‘Last Comic Standing’ winner Iliza Shlesinger unleashes her acerbic, stream-of-conscious comedy on an unsuspecting audience in her hometown of Dallas.
The Comeback Kid — John Mulaney
Armed with boyish charm and a sharp wit, the former “SNL” writer offers sly takes on marriage, his beef with babies and the time he met Bill Clinton.
Delirious — Eddie Murphy
The stand-up special that inspired an entire generation of comics in the special that made him a household name, Eddie Murphy unleashes uncensored observations and parodies in this 1983 live show.
