First off: SPOILERS AHEAD. The clip of Netflix’s Stranger Things set side-by-side with all of the 70’s and 80’s movies it pays homage to shows a handful of scenes with some serious spoilers, so if you’re not caught up on the series then I’d advise caution here. But if you haven’t even begun watching yet then a) you probably won’t remember any of the spoilers because you don’t have any context and b) you’ll still really enjoy the throwback to all of the 70’s and 80’s movies of yesterday…Here are some of the movies that Stranger Things pays homage to through Season 1, including but not limited to Goonies, Alien(s), Poltergeist, Firestarters, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial:

So I’m tired as hell this morning because I wrapped up Season 1 of Stranger Things on Netflix last night and now that it’s all said and done I’m willing to call this one of the best Sci-Fi series of the past decade, if not THE best. The characters are all so goddamn good, the show is brilliantly written, and if you were a child who grew up watching Sci-Fi movies from the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s then THIS is the exact TV series you’ve been waiting for.

I’ve already got everyone in my nucleus of family and friends watching this series and thus far every single person has confirmed my belief that it’s one of the best TV shows in decades. I’m sure the nostalgia has a lot to do with it because it is pretty awesome to feel like you’re back in the early 80’s, but the show itself has some serious chops. Full disclosure: I don’t do horror/scary well at all, so I was fairly certain I wouldn’t make it through this series because it’s pretty fucking spooky. I stuck with it, and I’m here to tell you that it’s one of the best non-comedy shows I’ve ever finished and I’ll be counting the days until Season 2.
