Filson Introduces The Chilkoot Pass Parka, Dubbed As ‘The Ultimate Winter Jacket’

Not all winter jackets are made equal. Some, in fact, are poorly constructed and do an inadequate job of repelling the elements. There’s nothing worse than being all bundled up and still cold as an ice cube.

Filson’s brand new Chilkoot Pass Parka is not your average winter jacket. It’s now available for purchase on Filson.com. It’s named after the Chilkoot Pass, a high mountain pass through the Boundary Ranges of the Coast Mountains in Alaska. It’s the very pass that many prospectors with gold fever took during the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush. Fittingly, historical gold rush is when Filson first started cutting its teeth in the outerwear game, calling Seattle home.

The Chilkoot Pass Parka is filled with ethically-sourced 850FP, 90/10 goose down that’s lightweight and naturally toasty. The down fill is winter insulation for your body that has proven itself time and again in subzero conditions, where warmth is paramount. The down itself is compliant with Responsible Down Standard standards for outerwear. According to Filson, RDA compliance indicates the geese providing the down fill aren’t harmed in the process. Double-baffle jacket construction keeps the down fill evenly insulated throughout the jacket, meaning there won’t be cold spots.

Note that the fit of this Filson parka is generous, ideal for layering in long johns and other thermals.

The Chilkoot Pass Parka also features a lightweight shell made of durable ripstop fabric. It’s constructed from a blend of organic cotton and recycled nylon. It’s breathable with a two-zipper front for when you’re trudging through a thick snowdrift with a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis. Also features a storm guard for the zipper, a deep hood that can close at the chin with a Velcro® snap, and rib-knit interior cuffs that seal the warmth in your sleeves.

It’s currently available in two colors: Dark Forest and Snow Camo.

It’s pretty much the ultimate winter jacket. If Yukon Cornelius needed a parka, one can only assume the Filson Chilkoot Pass Parka would be the one he’d buy.

It’s pricey, at $895 via Filson.com, but I have to image you already knew that when you clicked into this link.
