Jalin Turner’s UFC journey may have just come to an abrupt end. After a first-round loss to Ignacio Bahamondes at UFC 313, Turner announced in his post-fight interview that he’s hanging up the gloves.
It was a rough night for “The Tarantula,” who got caught early by Bahamondes’ striking and never quite recovered. The loss marks his third in a row, a skid that has clearly weighed on him. “That might be it for me,” Turner said in the Octagon, sounding like a man ready to step away.
@jzosports Ignacio Bahamondes And Jalin Turner show respect to each other after #ufc313 fight
At 28 years old, Turner has had his moments in the UFC, showing flashes of elite potential in the lightweight division. But the fight game is unforgiving, and three straight losses can make even the best reconsider their path. Whether this retirement sticks or he pulls a Tom Brady and reconsiders, only time will tell.
For now, though, it sounds like Jalin Turner is calling it a career.
Fellow fighter Derek Brunson weighed in on X, calling MMA “the most mentally draining sport in the world” and showing respect for Turner: “If this is your last fight, I enjoyed watching you compete! #UFC313.”
The MMA community has been quick to react. Mike Bohn reported Turner’s likely retirement from press row on X, setting off a flurry of responses from fans. Some believe he just needs a change of scenery, like @SimonPhx480, who suggested, “Just switch camps man, get a new look.” Others think it’s too soon to call it quits, with @iDatDudeFr saying, “He’s 29. Many losses but he’s so f**ing talented and entertaining. He CAN’T retire.”*
There’s also skepticism, with @jodysback chalked it up to a “hurt ego talking” rather than a real decision to retire. Meanwhile, @Jwood_921 pleaded, “F** man, please don’t. Just needs a new camp. Don’t let this talent go to waste.”
For now, though, it sounds like Jalin Turner is calling it a career. But in MMA, retirements rarely last forever.
