Welcome back to BroBible’s Things We Want. I’m Brandon Wenerd, the publisher of BroBible.com.
I’m currently writing this from Mammoth Lakes after a toasty but easy drive up the 395 from Los Angeles, soaking up some proper spring skiing vibes. The mountain is definitely hitting that classic afternoon slush stage, and we’re spring skiing pretty early for March right now. Record-high temperatures are swinging between 60 and 70 degrees up here. It’s absolutely beautiful, but I’ll be honest: I brought my fly rod along for a reason. If the snow doesn’t hold up (and my guess is it’ll be mashed potatoes by mid-morning), I’m more than happy to trade the boards for my rod, hit the Owens River, and see if I can’t trick a few trout (or however you fish it in spring flows?).
More than the fishing or the skiing, though, I’m just stoked to get some quality hang time with my brother. We’ve been doing this exact routine since we were little kids back in Pennsylvania—just going out to “play in the woods.” Except now we’re doing it as middle-aged adults in the Sierras. Word on the street is the bears are officially out of hibernation, so who knows? Maybe we’ll have some furry company on the trail. Just not the kind that Turtle from Entourage would be into, I hope.

Before escaping to the mountains, I had an absolutely incredible evening in Los Angeles for our latest BroBible Movie Night. We screened BEAST, and man, what an epic night. I can’t spill too many details about this incredible fight movie just yet, but seriously… do not miss this film if you are a UFC fan. Reflecting on it today, running these local movie screenings in LA over the last two years has become such a massive source of joy and pride for me. I’m incredibly lucky to work with some amazing partners to make these happen, and it’s awesome to see how BroBible can bring a packed house to some lesser-known releases that are damn good pieces of art worth your time. They are a ton of work, and let’s be real, LA is a city notorious for flaky people, but the crowd that actually shows up really seems to love the experience. 3. A Fascinating Pour of History: ‘Tequila Wars’ by Ted Genoways

If you’re going to be sipping margaritas or palomas by the pool this spring, you might as well know the insane true history behind the spirit in your glass. I’m currently completely captivated by the premise of award-winning journalist Ted Genoways’ new book, Tequila Wars: José Cuervo and the Bloody Struggle for the Spirit of Mexico.
We all know the name José Cuervo, but it turns out the guy behind the multi-billion dollar empire is an obscure, shadowy historical figure. At the dawn of the twentieth century, Cuervo inherited a humble family distillery in the Tequila Valley and transformed it into a massive national enterprise. He brought electricity and a railroad to the region, effectively vertically integrating his operation. But when the Mexican Revolution erupted, his massive wealth and political ties put a serious target on his back.
Things got so heated that Pancho Villa literally put a death threat out on him, forcing Cuervo to flee. Genoways spent 12 years researching and digging through secret family archives to uncover this story. He details how Cuervo navigated the violent chaos of the revolution, smuggled tequila to American drinkers during Prohibition, and lobbied for “a union of tequila makers” that effectively became the first Mexican cartel. It’s a dizzying, cinematic read about capital, cross-border conflict, and the birth of an iconic spirit. 4. A Japanese Heirloom Diver: Seiko Marinemaster HBF001 & HBF002

If you’re looking for a serious heirloom piece—the kind of watch you pass down to your kids—Seiko just dropped an absolute nuke on the dive watch world. This is the new Marinemaster ref.
