You know what I’ve really come to love about getting older? That you can still love all the stuff you’ve loved as a teenager, just in a more mature way. Music, sports, hobbies, clothes, fashion. Perhaps it’s Peter Pan syndrome, but I think it rocks that we live in a time where you don’t have to trade your favorite pair of skate shoes for penny loafers.
I love my Vans. A couple years ago I started regularly wearing Vans slip-ons again as my go-to hanging around shoe. Haven’t worn Vans since my middle school skateboarder-wannabe days. They’re super comfy, affordable, and look great with shorts or khakis in various social situations, from the park to the beach to the coffee shop.
I just picked up a new pair of Vans slip-ons for the summer in a store in Long Beach the other day. But I can’t take my eyes off this new collab with Todd Synder, America’s top menswear designers.
The iconic Southern California shoe brand and Todd Synder just released a limited-edition “Dirty Martini” capsule drop. Appropriately, the shoes are available in Synder’s signature seude olive-green colorway. Natch, they’re announcing it on 4/20.
According to a press release, the Todd Synder x Vans Dirty Martini collection is inspired by Synder’s favorite cocktail. It features two luxury takes on classic skater styles: the Slip-On 98 DX and the Lace-Up 73 DX.
The release pays homage to the pioneering Vans factory in Anaheim, California, and brings back an iconic design that incorporates elements from the original, but with updated comfort features. You know, because we’re grown adults now.
In the immortal words of Blink 182, I guess this is growing up.
But if this is growing up, is it really that bad?
