Reda el-Fouly made a music video with her boyfriend called Sib Eddi. It is not a particularly good music video. But that’s not the point here.
The point is that it was deemed racy enough by Egyptian authorities to result in her arrest.
And here I thought this was Amer–oh, OK, that makes sense.
Ahmed Bakly of the Giza prosecution said in a statement that the clip “disrupted morality.”
He also ordered the arrest of Wael Elsedeki, who he described as el-Fouly’s boyfriend who had left the country for Tunisia after some social media users called the video scandalous, and a third person involved in the video.
The official charge here is “enticing debauchery,” which is literally what we do here all day, every day.
My only complaint here is that she went half-measure. If you’re going to be jailed for dancing around fully clothed, may as well go all out and take it all off.
Oh, well. Maybe next time.
