Fred Armisen leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’

Fred Armisen is leaving Saturday Night Live. He added his name to an exit roster that already includes Seth Meyers and Bill Hader. Will this be the end of SNL as we know it?

A source at NBC has confirmed to The Post that, after months of rumors, veteran performer Fred Armisen will also be leaving the show. Headliner Jason Sudeikis will “probably” jump as well, the source said.

Who knows who this source is, but the statement falls in line with what we’ve been hearing. Armisen has been on the verge of leaving for over a year now, so it’s no surprise that he decided to finally jump ship. You’ll just have to watch Portlandia to get your Armisen fix.

People are acting as if this is the end of the world for Saturday Night Live. While it may be a bit of a setback, it’s not as if there’s a dearth of talent. I’ve been to numerous shows at Second City with characters and actors that top much of what comes out of SNL. Plus, while Seth Meyers is the most notable name to leave, he is staying on for the fall season. That gives the newcomers plenty of time to introduce their comedic styling to the late night world.

That said, if you’re a sketch comic, I’d be sending your reel over to SNL immediately. Just based on the number of players leaving they are going to need to add new cast members quickly. There’s no reason that shouldn’t be you. If I applied for In Living Color, you can certainly tryout for SNL.
