The Cleveland Browns Turned Down ‘Hard Knocks,’ Which Would Have Been Awesome with Johnny Manziel

The raging dumpster fire that is the Cleveland Browns organization just passed on the opportunity of a lifetime: To let cameras into their training camp and locker rooms before the 2014-2015 NFL season for HBO’s Hard Knocks. We are all worse for it because the drama between Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordon and owner Jimmy Haslam would have been fantastic to watch. Pettine confirmed the Browns rejected an opportunity to be considered for the HBO Hard Knocks series. He said the club was approached before it drafted Manziel.

Teams with first-year coaches have the right to decline.

“It was for the same reason we didn’t feel super comfortable having a camera in the draft room,” Pettine said. “Let’s get through the first time, let’s get through the first year.”

Fingers-crossed that next year we’ll get a look behind-the-curtain from Hard Knocks at the Johnny Manziel show.
