Oh here we go again, another day another “Fox News is the devil” round of headlines, which, I’ll admit that I’ve bought into. But before we get started, watch the clip below:
Where in there did Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Victoria’s Secret model, say that women shouldn’t vote? Nowhere. Specifically, she said:
The same reason why young women on juries is not a good idea. They don’t get it. They’re not in that same life experience of paying the bills, doing the mortgage, kids, community, crime, education, healthcare…they’re like healthy and hot and running around without a care in the world.”
When Beckel responded that young women had every right to be on juries, Guilfoyle replied that she didn’t say they shouldn’t be, just that her view was that lawyers don’t exactly strive to have young women on juries. Guilfoyle is not only a former Victoria’s Secret Model but also a former assistant district attorney in San Francisco, so it’s not like she’s pulling this out of her ass, and really, it makes sense.
With age comes maturity, and I can say first-hand that a lot of my peers don’t give a shit about most things (myself included). Now, does that mean that young people can’t make informed decisions? Of course not; but would I trust your average 20-year-old’s judgment over someone who’s 45 when it comes to sitting on a jury? Probably not. Like I said, age = maturity (most of the time).
Now did Kimberly here express that very well? No, because she decided to follow it up with a quip about Tinder and Match.com, which, in context was a joke…but take it out of context and you get a bazillion headlines about how Fox News hates women and all this other clickbaiting bullshit just for the sake of jumping on the “Fuck Fox” bandwagon. My parents are in the 45-55 age range and I know for a fact that most persons that age don’t sit on the Internet and read/comment on clickbait all day ‘erry day like a lot of young people my age do. Which, if you’re still with me here, implies that the majority of the people in comments sections are young persons who can’t even manage to sit and listen critically to a 3 minute video and instead decide to rip people apart for whatever the title says, which just happens to be a couple of comments taken out of context from the video…kind of speaks to Kimberly’s point, doesn’t it?
*Cue no one reading this or watching the video and sounding off in the comments anyways*
