In the immortal words of The Wire, you come at the king, you best not miss. Rapper Joey Bada$$ is kind of our dude here at BroBible. Anyone who makes my colleague Matt Keohan look like an idiot is my boy.
But he’s feeling the ire of the rap community hard today after coming out with some wild statements in an interview with Genius. He was quoted saying that he’s a better rapper than Tupac, which is something you just don’t say unless you’re trying to stir up the trolls and piss a bunch of people off. It’s his John Lennon-saying-we’re-bigger-than-Jesus moment.
“I believe that I am one of the minds that ‘Pac said would spark the change in the world,” he tells Genius. “I’m probably not the one that is going to change the world—probably the one after me. It’s also a part of me wanting to have their messages travel further. I know there is a lot of people out there that resonate with me, who don’t necessarily resonate with them. I already know I’m a better rapper than Tupac is. That’s just facts. One on one battle, I’ll flame ‘Pac.”
Badass was quick to respond and walk that statement ALLLLLLLL the way back.
There’s a lesson here, kids. Never compare yourself to the greats no matter how good you are. Nothing good ever comes from it.
