A Judge In New York Was Driving To Court To Do Judge Stuff And WHOOPS, She Was Hit With Drunk Driving Charges

Judge Leticia Astacio of Rochester, New York was driving to court on Sunday to do all the things that judges do when she had a run in with police. Officers were dispatched to a one car accident on highway I-490, where they found Judge Leticia Astacio.

As stated before this judge was ON HER WAY TO COURT. Once officers arrived they tried to administer a breathalyzer, a breathalyzer that Judge Astacio refused to take. After refusing she was slapped with an ‘appearance ticket’ which orders here to appear in court next month, she was reportedly charged with ‘misdemeanor driving while intoxicated’.

This is a judge that was on her way to court to preside over criminal proceedings, to make judgments on law breakers. She was planning on doing this immediately after she got behind the wheel and was charged with drunk driving. I don’t drive drunk and I’ve never been charged with a DUI, but reading this story I’m fucking infuriated at the notion that a judge can be such a fucking hypocrite. She is however an elected official, so this is also on the local voters.

The Democrat & Chronicle reports:

Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated Saturday morning and issued an appearance ticket.
According to Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley, Astacio, 34, was ticketed by New York State Police traveling on Interstate 490 near the Mt. Read Boulevard exit about 8 a.m.
Trooper Chris Kowalski said troopers came upon Astacio’s vehicle on I-490 and that the investigation is still ongoing. Astacio’s car was damaged in what was possibly a one-car crash. No other car was involved.
Astacio was headed to Rochester City Court to preside over Saturday morning arraignments.
The ticket was designated DWI with refusal, and she is scheduled to appear in court on March 11. According to Kowalski, Astacio refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

Something of interest here is that back in 2009 Judge Astacio was working in the Monroe County drunken driving bureau, so this is a judge who is VERY INTIMATELY FAMILIAR with the legality of drunk driving, charging offenders with drunk driving, and dolling out drunk driving sentences…So it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out after her day in court in March.
