The life of a man who was nearly broke changed forever on April 1st when he found a $5 bill on the ground. This is a man who was behind on his bills, driving a busted truck, and couldn’t even afford his own ticket to a hockey game. He was struggling at every facet of life until he found that $5 bill in the parking lot of a WaWa in Clearwater, Florida.
Upon finding that $5 bill his first inclination was to walk inside that WaWa and drop it all on a scratch off lottery ticket, so he followed his gut and scratched his way to $500,000 and a life turned upside down. From broke and stressed due to the launch of a recent sign maintenance business to $500,000 richer in an instant. This man is living the goddamn American Dream!
Jonathan Kelso of Valrico has had problems lately, truck and financial issues related to the recent start-up of his sign maintenance business.
“I actually had a friend buy me a ticket to the Lightning game because he knew I was struggling,” Kelso said.
His luck took a serious turn on April Fools’ Day. While he was hanging out with his brother-in-law, he found a $5 bill on the ground.
“So we decided to get a drink at Wawa in Clearwater and I was like, ‘Let’s buy a ticket.’ If we win, we split it. He said, ‘No, it’s yours.’ So, I went in and bought a ticket and fourth one I scratched was the $500,000,” he said.
The $500,000 prize is the Gold Rush scratch-off game’s largest jackpot.
Kelso took just one day off work to claim the prize in Tallahassee. He has a plan for the winnings.
“I still have obligations. I’ll pay off my house, pay off some bills and just put money towards my business and not have to stress so much anymore,” he said.
Kelso said he’ll also give his brother-in-law a small cut, buy his wife a new car and buy his friend who bought him a Lightning ticket a beer.
This is how I imagine a man feels when he goes from broke to having $500,000 in under a minute:
And this is how he’s going to feel when he finds out how much he’s getting taxed this year:
Lesson learned: If you’re nearly broke then spend it all on a scratch off ticket. Put your fate in the hand of the Old Gods and The New. Let the Universe decide what’s in store for you instead of overthinking it.
As a business owner I’m sure he wasn’t nearly as broke as that article made him out to be, and $5 isn’t going to make a dent int he bank account of anyone who owns a house and a car…only according to this story IT CAN. Just as long as you immediately spend that $5 on the lottery.
So go now! Go out and buy as many lottery tickets as you can afford!
