We take you Madera, California where a ride-along turned into a frightening nightmare. A civilian woman went on a ride with California Police Officer Julian Garcia at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. The officer initiated a regular traffic stop on a Mazda CX-7 for a “broken headlight.” Then the woman got much more than she bargained for as the SUV pretends to pull over, but then speeds away. The vehicle blows through stop signs and accelerates over 40 MPH.
During the pursuit, bullets are fired from the perp’s vehicle towards the Crown Victoria cruiser. The woman screamed “Stop,” and was crying for her life as a bullet whizzed by her head and she was cut from the broken glass.
“We are thankful and blessed that both the officer and civilian were not injured,” Madera Police Lieutenant Gino Chiaramonte said. “The officer’s decisive actions prevented the civilian ride-along from being seriously injured. The officer demonstrated a very cool demeanor for such a short time with the department.”
His ride-along, who has not been identified, was scratched by broken glass as two incoming rounds pierced the police car’s windshield and blew out its back window.
The Mazda escaped the disabled cop cruiser, but it was later found abandoned, along with this gun.
Detective Sergeant Johnny Smith said, “there were paper license plates on the car, which was stolen from Fresno.”
