Translation Mishap Leads Spanish Town To Advertise Festival Dedicated To The Clitoris

South Park

Look, we all rely a little too much on the robots to do things for us.

They check our spelling, compute our digits of pi, and explore our intrasolar planets. We use the robots because they’re just so darn good at everything. I can look at a piece of writing 100 times and not realize I spelled ‘theif’ wrong, but a robot will recognize that instantly.

Because we’re so reliant on them, and because they are so frequently perfect at their jobs, I think we can forgive ourselves for not always reviewing their work.

Like a town in Spain, who needed to translate a Galician word into Castilian Spanish. It was for the As Pontes Grelo Festival. Grelo is a leafy green vegetable that when tossed into Google Translate alongside some garlic and olive oil comes out as the poky button that makes the women go bonkers.

The website for the festival thus read:

The clitoris is one of the typical products of Galician cuisine. Since 1981 … the festival has made the clitoris one of the star products of its local gastronomy.”

Hell yea that’s good eatin’.
