Hand size in the NFL is not an accurate predictor of a quarterback’s success in the league. We know this. Some of the most successful QBs in NFL history have had hands below the league average size of 9.7″.

Even still, hand size remains a constant topic of discussion when it comes to NFL quarterbacks. So today we take a look at the 15 QBs with the smallest hands in the NFL right now.

When it comes to quarterbacks in the NFL, ‘hand size’ is always a talking point when evaluating potential talent. As we can see below, some NFL quarterbacks have below-average sized hands and a proven track record of success. Others, not so much.

Here at BroBible, recently looked at the 19 QBs with the largest hands in NFL history so today we thought we would flip it around and take a look at the 15 QBs with the smallest hands in the NFL.

15. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

So much has been made of Kyler Murray’s size. At 5’10” he is one of the shortest quarterbacks in NFL history but his 9 1/2″ hands are pretty average. They are also the same hand size as Lamar Jackson who has had zero problems with 9.5″ hands.

Kyler was named the 2019 NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, he holds a 115-57 TD-INT split, but he has fumbled the ball 50 times and lost 12 of those fumbles, something Murray desperately needs to work on going forward.

14. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson is one of the best pure athletes in the NFL. He and his 9 1/2″ hands have had zero problems handling the football during his NFL career.

Jackson is a 2x NFL MVP, 4x Pro Bowler, led the NFL in Passing TDs in 2019 and in Passing Rating in 2024. His 9.5″ hands are just marginally below the NFL average hand size of 9.7″ but still on the smaller side and regardless, they have never held him back.

13. Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks

Sam Darnold and his 9 3/8″ hands have yet to play a game for the Seattle Seahawks after signing a three-year, $100.5 million contract back in March making him the new face of the franchise. Darnold threw 35 TDs and 12 INTs for Minnesota in 2024. That was good enough to be selected to the 2024 Pro Bowl and land him a big contract with Seattle. Tiny hands don’t hold him back.

#2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft was a stud for the Washington Commanders in his first season despite having 9 3/8″ hands, the 12th smallest of any QB in the NFL last season.

Jayden Daniels threw for 25 TDs and 9 INTs and rushed for another 6. He also took the Commanders all the way to the NFC Championship Game and had the highest passer rating of any rookie quarterback in NFL history. The future is BRIGHT for Jayden Daniels and his 9 3/8″ hands.

11. Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders

A 2x Pro Bowler and 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Ygear, Geno Smith has 9.25″ hands which is 10th smallest in the NFL among current quarterbacks. Geno has a 105–72 TD-INT split over 2,655 pass attempts and 1,721 completions. He’s good. Better than good. It was a legitimate shocker when the Seahawks traded him away. Obviously, the Raiders weren’t turned off by Geno’s 9 1/4″ hands.

10. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

2023 Pro Bowler and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has the 10th smallest hands of current QBs in the NFL at 9 1/4″ but it hasn’t seemed to hold him back at all. Purdy recently signed a five-year $265 million contract extension with the 49ers, an acknowledgment from the team that he is officially their guy.

In three seasons with San Francisco, Brock Purdy has thrown for 64 TDs and 27 INTs. He has also ran the ball into the end zone 8 times while only losing 5 fumbles so far. Not bad for a guy with 9.25″ hands.

9. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Small hands, who cares? Patrick Mahomes has 9 1/4 hands, among the smallest in the NFL, but he is the most successful quarterback currently in the NFL (since Tom Brady retired) and anyone who thinks his small hands have ever held him back in any way, shape, or form should get their brain checked.

Mahomes and his 9.25″ hands are 3x Super Bowl champs and 3x Super Bowl MVPs. He is a 2x NFL MVP and has led the NFL in Passing Touchdowns in 2 seasons.

8. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bake Show seemed to be nearly over before he landed in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers and has been one of the league’s top QBs over the past two seasons.

Baker Mayfield and his 9 1/4 hands threw for 28 TDs and 10 INTs in 2023 and 41 TDs and 16 INTs last season. It is a bit concerning that Baker Mayfield and his 9.25″ hands fumbled the ball 13 times in 2024 but all signs indicate he will be on fire again in the 2025 NFL season.

7. Jarrett Stidham, Denver Broncos

Jarret Stidham and his 9 1/8″ hands has been in the NFL since the 2019 Draft when he was selected in the 4th Round out of Auburn by the Patriots. He hasn’t factored in much during his NFL career, playing in just 3 games last season for Denver and never even throwing the ball (4 rush attempts). This seems like a case where Jarrett Stidham might be better off with bigger hands.

6. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff and his 9-inch hands are so, so close to getting over the hump and winning a title for the great city of Detroit. If Goff pulls that off in 2025, he would almost certainly have the smallest hands of any Super Bowl-winning QB in NFL history. For now though, the 30-year-old QB will seek to capture some of Detroit’s success in the 2024 season where they went 15-2 in the regular season in spite of Goff having 9″ hands.

5. Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans

Former Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward was drafted with the 1st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. If things go according to plan for the Titans, Cam Ward and his 9″ hands (3rd smallest in the NFL) will be the future of the organization.

Cam Ward cleaned up during Awards Season last year, being named 2024 ACC Player of the Year, Davey O’Brien Award Winner, Manning Award Winner, First-Team All ACC, Consensus All-American, and more… All of that with just 9″ hands!

4. Will Howard, Pittsburgh Steelers

Drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2025 NFL Draft, Will Howard enters the NFL tied with the 3rd smallest hands of active quarterbacks. It remains to be seen where he will sit on the depth chart after the Steelers picked up a QB who was born during Ronald Reagan’s administration.

Howard became a National Champion with Ohio State in 2024 before being drafted. He has a proven track record of success in recent years unlike Aaron Rodgers who sat out all of last season after his torn Achilles. Now only time will tell if Will Howard’s 9″ hands will hold him back.

3. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Tied for the 3rd smallest hands of any QB in the NFL right now, the 9-inch mitts have clearly not held Joe Burrow back. The #1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Burrow led the NFL in Passing Yards and Passing TDs in 2024. He is a 2x Pro Bowler. And Joe Burrow brought his team to Super Bowl LVI where they lost by just 3 points. The 9″ hands haven’t held Joey B back in the least bit.

2. Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

Taysom Hill is a tricky one because he is primarily a Tight End but has been listed as a QB on the roster and most Fantasy Football rosters allow him to be used as a QB once he has reached a certain threshold during the season. But he and his 8 and 3/4 inch hands have the second-smallest hands of any QB in NFL history, which almost certainly contributed to him being converted to a full-time TE in New Orleans.

As of 2024, ‘the Human Swiss Army Knife’ has thrown for 11 TDs and 9 INTs in the NFL. He has 2,369 passing yards and another 2,437 rushing yards. On top of that, Hill has 943 receiving yards and 489 return yards with 44 total TDs. He is truly a Jack of all trades with his little hands never holding him back.

1. Kenny Pickett, Cleveland Browns

So much has been made of Kenny Pickett’s hands I’d be shocked if everyone here didn’t already know that Pickett has the smallest hands of any NFL quarterback at just 8 1/2 inches. The former PITT quarterback was drafted with the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and it felt like you couldn’t turn on Draft coverage without hearing about his baby hands.

Flash forward a few years and Pickett was dealt to the Eagles then the Browns where he will now battle for a starting spot in the NFL’s most crowded quarterback room.
