The NFL Draft is in the books, and these ten picks were huge reaches by the drafting teams.
With The 12th Pick, The Cowboys Select Alabama OG Tyler Booker

I actually think Tyler Booker is going to be a solid player. But, for a team with as many needs as Dallas has, taking a guard that high is a mistake. The only way it’s not is he turns into a Zack Martin-caliber player and he’s not that kind of prospect. He will need multiple All-Pro selections to pay off this pick.
With The 25th Pick, The Giants Select Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart

Giants fans are excited, but it’s simply not a good pick. There were so many teams desperate for quarterbacks picking in the top ten, and the fact that Dart never really got a sniff in that range shows that he’s just an elite quaterback prospect. Doing this when the Giants are almost certainly going to be bad and next year’s quarterback class looks fantastic isn’t very smart.
With The 26th Pick, The Falcons Select Tennessee EDGE James Pearce

Pearce has the measurables you want out of a speed rusher in the NFL. But, turn on the tape and he doesn’t make a huge impact given his ability level. To make matters worse, Atlanta gave up next year’s first round pick to make this move. It was a big mistake.
With The 40th Pick, The Saints Select Louisville QB Tyler Shough

Tyler Shough will turn 26 in September, played more than seven games in just one of his seven college seasons, and in a normal quarterback draft class, would’ve been a late-round pick. This pick makes no sense, as there doesn’t seem to be a ton of upside to his game.
With The 50th Pick, The Seahawks Select Miami TE Elijah Arroyo

This is simply a reach. Arroyo has struggled mightily with injuries in his career, and really only had one season of production. He was worthy of a mid-round pick, but the 2nd round was too steep of a price to pay.
With The 74th Pick, The Broncos Select Illinois WR Pat Bryant

Bryant is a nice player, and he had a solid senior season for the Illini. But, a 3rd round pick with plenty of better players on the board meant that he was a reach.
With The 94th Pick, The Browns Select Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel

Nobody, and I mean nobody, saw this coming. Gabriel was a great college quarterback, but his size and lack of elite arm talent will be significant limiting factors in the NFL. Basically no one had him over guys like Shedeur Sanders, Kyle McCord, Will Howard and Quinn Ewers on their boards. He went before all of them. This was a reach.
With The 95th Pick, The Patriots Select Georgia OL Jared Wilson

Wilson doesn’t really project as a solid starter in the NFL, and will likely be a career high-end backup. That’s a great pick in the 5th round. In the 3rd round, it’s not very good at all.
With The 97th Pick, The Texans Select USC CB Jaylin Smith

Some scouts had Smith as an undrafted free agent, but the Texans deicded to use a 3rd round compensatory pick on him. It was baffling.
With The 130th Pick, The Jets Select Alabama DB Malachi Moore

I actually like Malachi Moore as a player and think he will make a roster. But, I liked him as a 6th-7th round pick, not as a 4th-rounder. The Jets reached here.
