College football sesaon is in full swing, and fans have no shortage of contests to pick from thanks to a Week 2 schedule that boasts a grand total of 78 games between Friday and Saturday.

As a result, there is no shortage of showdowns to pick from if you plan on spending the majority of the weekend glued to a coach or a seat at the bar, and if you’re looking for the most intriguing match-ups on the schedule, you’ve come to the right place.

Football fans have an abundance of choice this weekend when you consider the NFL has also made its grand return, and there are plenty of games in the college realm that are steeped in a ton of intrigue.

There’s obviously no way to guarantee all of them will live up to the hype, but it seems like it will be hard to go wrong with devoting a few hours to the ones on this list.

Michigan and Texas haven’t faced off against each other since their back-and-forth Rose Bowl showdown in 2005 (which was also the first time they played each other), and we should be in for a treat.

The Longhorns will have the chance to prove they’re officially Back following a cakewalk win over Colorado State in their season opener, while the Wolverines look to show they shouldn’t be counted out after losing their head coach and a ton of key players in the wake of their national championship.

Iowa State vs. #21 Iowa

Iowa and Iowa State have a fierce rivalry stretching back to 1894, and while the Hawkeyes have won eight of the last nine showdowns, they only enter the game as 3-point favorites over the Cyclones.

It would appear Iowa is working with a rejuvenated offense after mercifully replacing Brian Ferentz with Tim Lester based on their 40-0 win over Illinois State in Week 1, but Iowa State should put up a pretty good fight.

Arkansas vs. #16 Oklahoma State

Arkansas and Oklahoma State are reviving a rivalry that went into hibernation all the way back in 1980, and there are plenty of reasons to be intrigued by its resurrection.

Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman headed into the season dealing with one of the most scorching hot seats in college football, and Bobby Petrino’s new offense got off to a promising start by scoring a touchdown on every drive in a blowout 70-0 win.

They’ll be facing infinitely stiffer competition in the form of the Sooners (who are favored by 10 points), but Pittman could secure a major boost to his job security if they can pull off the upset on the road.

#23 Georgia Tech vs. Syracuse

Georgia Tech stunned Florida State with an upset in Ireland to kick off the college football season and entered the Top 25 in the process. However, the win was slightly less impressive due to the fact that the Seminoles fell to Boston College to drop to 0-2.

There werent’t many people who expected the Yellow Jackets to be competing for an ACC Championship this year, but they could make another step in the right direction with a win over a Syracuse squad that’s only a 3-point underdog.

Pitt vs. Cincinnati

There aren’t many games on the slate in Week 2 that are more of a coin flip than this one, as the Bearcats head into the contest favored by just 1.5 points over the Panthers.

Both teams came away with a win in Week 1, and what is set to be the last installment of the River City Rivalry in the near future is shaping up to be a battle.

#14 Tennessee vs. #24 NC State

This is one of only two games featuring two teams in the Top 25 that will unfold over the weekend, and there’s a reason it was tapped to be the primetime matchup on ABC on Saturday night.

The Volunteers are expected to come away with a win as 10-point favorites, but the Wolfpack could make a very big statement if they can defy the odds against an SEC program under the lights in front of a friendly crowd.

Nebraska vs. Colorado

At this point, every game involving Deion Sanders’ squad is a must-watch, and this one is certainly no exception.

The Buffaloes feature the most electric player in college football in the form of Travis Hunter, and there are still lingering tensions between the two rival schools thanks to the trash talk and taunting that unfolded last season.

The Cornhuskers are favored by six points at home, but there are plenty of factors that could swing the game in Colorado’s favor that make this grudge match appointment television.
