NFL Quarterback Power Rankings Week 4: Ranking All 32 Starting Quarterbacks From Worst To First

Week 3 has come and gone. Here are all 32 Week 4 projected starting quarterbacks ranked worst to first.

Week 3 is in the books, and we’re closing in on roughly the quarter-mark of the 17-game NFL season.  Each week, we have more and more data to rank all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks using their performance, taking into account their individual situation, supporting cast, play-calling, and other variables.  There is also projection of how these players will play in the upcoming weeks. Some consideration at this point is given to past performance, though that will fade away more each week.

For these rankings, we will assume that Tim Boyle will start for the Dolphins and Malik Willis will start for the Packers while Skylar Thompson and Jordan Love recover from injury, respectively.

32. Miami Dolphins QB Tim Boyle

Last Week: 7/13, 53.8%, 79 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 7/13, 53.8%, 79 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 72.3 passer rating

The Dolphins are down to their third-stringer after Skylar Thompson bruised his ribs against the Seahawks. Tim Boyle is a career backup, and didn’t show much of anything in mop-up duty. Expect him to be a very inefficient quarterback on Monday night against Miami.

31. Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson

Last Week: 21/37, 56.8%, 196 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 67/116, 57.8%, 551 yds, 3 TD, 2 INT,

Don’t let the mediocre stats fool you. After a terrible Week 1 and a bit of a bounce-back in Week 2, Watson was downright awful against the Giants in Week 3. His EPA through three games is worse than any other Browns starter through Week 3 since the team’s reintroduction in 1999. It feels like time for Jameis Winston in Cleveland.

30. Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix

Last Week: 25/36, 69.4%, 216 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 71/113, 62.8%, 600 yds, 0 TD, 4 INT,

Bo Nix avoided the backbreaking turnovers that hurt the Broncos in two competitive games the first two weeks of the season. That helped Denver get its first win. But, 216 yards on 36 attempts underlines the fact that he’s the worst incumbent starter in the league at getting the ball downfield in the passing game.

29. Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis

Last Week: 26/34, 76.5%, 260 yds, 2 TD, 2 INT
Season Stats: 64/94, 68.1%, 579 yds, 4TD 5INT

The completion percentage was great. But, the turnovers keep piling up for Levis, who had a pick-six in another  Titans loss. Coach Brian Callahan gave Levis a vote of confidence after the game, but he will be benched if he doesn’t cut down on the turnovers.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence

Last Week: 21/38, 55.3%, 178 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 47/89, 52.8%, 560 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT,

Something has gone completely wrong with not just the Jacksonville Jaguars but also with Trevor Lawrence. The 2021 first-overall pick has never quite lived up to that billing. But, a great ending to the 2022 season had people thinking superstardom was on the horizon. 2023 was just ok, and 2024 has been a disaster after signing a 5-year, $275 million deal. His interception on a pass Lawrence has been making consistently since he was in middle was the low point of his Jags career. He looks like a broken quarterback now, but one with the upside to turn it around.

27. New York Giants QB Daniel Jones

Getty Image / Nic Antaya

Last Week: 24/34, 70.6%, 236 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 62/104, 59.6%, 600 yds, 4 TD , 2 INT

Jones had the best start since his Pro Bowl season of 2022 on Sunday when he helped the Giants beat the Browns. Rookie Malik Nabers has been a huge help for Jones, who has looked better every week so far this season.

26. New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett

Getty Image / Jacoby Brissett

Last Week: 12/18, 66.7%, 98 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 42/69, 60.9%, 368 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT

If the job is to not turn the ball over, Jacoby Brissett is doing a great job of that. And, maybe that was the job to start the season, when a solid New England defense was much healthier. But, this team needs to score points to win games now with a defense that has suffered some pretty significant losses. Sadly, it looks like Brissett isn’t up to the job. 368 yards on 69 attempts just isn’t good enough, even if he hasn’t yet thrown an interception. We saw our first glance at third-overall pick Drake Maye late in the game, and we should see more soon.

25. Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis

Getty Image / Johnnie Izquierdo

Last Week: 13/19, 68.4%, 202 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 25/34, 73.5%, 324 yds, 2 TD , 0 INT

Willis had by far the best start of his NFL career while filling in for Jordan Love for a second-straight week, and is building up some trade value for next offseason if a team gets desperate for a starter. He’s still a limited dropback passer, but he showed that if you scheme well in the run game for both him and others, he can be an effective downfield passer.

24. Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson

Getty Image / Michael Hickey

Last Week: 10/20, 50%, 167 yds, 0 TD, 2 INT
Season Stats: 36/73, 49.3%, 583 yds, 3 TD, 6 INT

Richardson has a ton of potential and shows that every week. But, even in a win over the Bears, a 50% completion rate in the NFL is not going to cut it. Head Coach Shane Steichen surprisingly isn’t doing a great job of setting him up for success, but he needs to be more accurate and make better decisions. One interception on Sunday was particularly egregeious

23. Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams

Getty Image / INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - SEPTEMBER 22: Quarterback Caleb Williams #18 of the Chicago Bears warms up prior to a game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on September 22, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Photo by Michael Hickey/Getty Images)

Last Week: 33/52, 63.5%, 363 yds, 2 TD, 2 INT
Season Stats: 70/118, 59.3%, 630 yds, 2 TD 4 INT

Williams finally broke out productivity wise after completing a Hail Mary a foot short of the end zone to DJ Moore to end the first half in the team’s loss to the Colts. After an early second-half interception, Williams heated up, showing off his incredible arm talent and processing speed. He needs to build off that this week against the Rams. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and the run game need to take some pressure off of him, too.

22. Carolina Panthers QB Andy Dalton

Getty Image / Ian Maule

Last Week: 26/37, 70.3%, 319 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 26/38, 68.4%, 319 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT

Andy Dalton made it pretty clear that it was Bryce Young holding back the Panthers offense when he had one of the best quarterback games of the season in his 2024 debut against the Raiders. If he keeps repeating those kinds of games, he will shoot up these rankings.

21. Las Vegas Raiders QB Gardner Minshew

Getty Image / Ian Maule

Last Week: 18/28, 64.3%, 214 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 73/99, 73.7%, 747 yds, 3 TD, 3 INT

Minshew continues to be serviceable in Los Angeles. While he wasn’t necessarily good enough to lead them to a win over lowly Carolina, he was far from the top of list of problems for the Raiders. The biggest concern from a Raiders perspective on Minshew is whether he will win too many games for the team to be in a good spot to draft his replacement.

20. Pittsburgh Steleers QB Justin Fields

Getty Image / Justin Fields

Last Week: 25/32, 78.1%, 245 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 55/75, 73.3%, 518 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT

The Steelers offense now has as many offensive touchdowns as games played. But, Fields is actually playing pretty darn well with the kid gloves that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is treating him. He was especially strong after halftime in their win over the then-unbeaten Chargers. At 3-0 as a starter, he seems to have won the job over Russell Wilson when Wilson comes back from injury. It will be interesting to see if Arthur Smith starts getting a little more aggressive and complex in the passing game as Fields earns his trust.

19. San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy

Getty Image / Ric Tapia

Last Week: 22/30, 73.3%, 292 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 69/95, 72.6%, 842 yds, 4 TD, 1 INT

The numbers were once again pretty good for Purdy. I’m sure many of you think this is too low, and maybe it is. But, even with injuries throughout the skill positions, Purdy has a good supporting cast, a solid offensive line, and the league’s best playcaller. Unfortunately, in both of their losses in their two-game losing streak, he hasn’t quite come through in the clutch. The difference between Purdy and a truly elite quarterback like Matthew Stafford was on display in the 4th quarter on Sunday.

18. Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

Getty Image / Cooper Neill

Last Week: 28/51, 54.9%, 379 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 74/122, 60.7%, 851 yds, 4 TD, 2 INT

Dak Prescott is being asked to do a lot in Dallas for a second-straight year, as the running game is nowhere to be found. That lack of running game plus falling behind early led to him throwing the ball 51 times. That’s too many for any NFL quarterback in today’s NFL. But, you’d like to see him turn those 51 attempts into a more efficient day than he had. One good game would move him up significantly in these ranks, as the quarterbacks around him are pretty bunched together.

17. Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff

Getty Image / Christian Petersen

Last Week: 18/23, 78.3%, 199 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 70/106, 66%, 723 yds, 3 TD, 4 INT

Goff was given a much better game script after being asked to throw the ball way too much in Week 2. He was considerably more efficient, but the interceptions are starting to add up for a player who struggled with interceptions at times in Los Angeles. If he cuts down on the turnovers starting this week against Seattle, he can start to rise up the rankings again.

16. Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins

Getty Image / Todd Kirkland

Last Week: 20/29, 69%, 230 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 56/84, 66.7%, 626 yds, 4 TD, 3 INT

Cousins continues to get more comfortable on that repaired Achilles, and he had the team in position to beat the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. Ultimately, I would’ve liked to see him punch it in for the go-ahead score like he did against the Eagles in Week 2. But, another encouraging outing for Cousins and another guy who could rise significantly.

15. Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

Getty Image / gus startk

Last Week: 29/38, 76.3%, 311 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 72/102, 70.6%, 772 yds, 3 TD, 4 INT

The interceptions are up and are a cause for concern. But, credit goes to Hurts for leading the team down the field in crunch time, perfectly executing a mesh concept and hitting Dallas Goedert for a huge gain in the two-minute drill. It’s easy to tell he’s not as sharp as he could be, but he’s hanging in there.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield

Getty Image / Mike Carlson

Last Week: 25/33, 75.8%, 163 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 61/82, 74.4%, 637 yds, 6 TD, 2 INT

After two strong games to start the year for both Mayfield and the Bucs, a blowout loss to the Broncos was a huge step back. 163 yards on 33 attempts isn’t going to cut it, and not being efficient down the field is a pattern that too often hampered Mayfield in Cleveland. Right now, it’s just a blip in the radar in the midst of another solid season in Tampa for Mayfield.

13. Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold

Getty Image / Sam Darnold

Last Week: 17/28, 60.7%, 181 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 53/78, 67.9%, 657 yds, 8 TD, 2 INT

Sam Darnold as an MVP Candidate? Probably not. But, he’s having a year that has certainly reestablished himself as a starting quarterback in the National Football League. Darnold is command of a Vikings team and offense that is on fire right now. Most importantly Kevin O’Connell trusts the strong-armed quarterback to make big-time throws. Will the clock strike midnight soon? Maybe. But, he has enough talent to keep this going for a long time, similar to Mayfield’s season last year.

12. Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray

Getty Image / Kyler Murray

Last Week: 21/34, 61.8%, 207 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 59/86, 68.6%, 635 yds, 5 TD, 1 INT

Murray is third in ESPN’s QBR, and that tells a pretty solid picture of the type of rebound season that the 2019 first-overall pick is having. He’s moving well, the arm looks great, and the playmaking maestro the Cardinals thought they were drafting is showing up. If he can keep improving as this team improves the next few years, the sky is the limit in Arizona.

11. Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith

Getty Image / Geno Smith

Last Week: 26/34, 76.5%, 289 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT
Season Stats: 77/103, 74.8%, 787 yds, 3 TD, 3 INT

It’s never good to throw multiple interceptions, but Smith continues moving the chains at a really high rate for a resurgent Seattle offense. The ball is coming out of his hand well, he’s making great decisions in former University of Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s scheme, as well. It’s looking like it will be a third straight season of Geno Smith playing starting-caliber football.

10. Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

Getty Image / Cooper Neill

Last Week: 21/23, 91.3%, 254 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 61/76, 80.3%, 664 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT

World, meet Jayden Daniels. Daniels set a rookie completion percentage record on Monday Night as he led the Commanders to a huge upset of the Bengals. His third-down touchdown pass on the team’s final meaningful drive to put Washington up two possessions is one of the early highlights of the NFL season. Facing a perfectly-called Bengals blitz, Daniels lobbed up a perfect go ball down the sidelines to Terry McLaurin for a 27-yard touchdown. Right now, it looks like Daniels could have a similar season to the one CJ Stroud had as a rookie.

9. New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr

Getty Image / Derek Carr

Last Week: 14/25, 56%, 142 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 44/64, 68.8%, 585 yds, 6 TD, 2 INT

Carr came back to earth in a big way against the Eagles after a near-flawless first two weeks. He’s going to want to forget his late-game, loss-sealing, interception against the blitz that showed the fact that things can break down pretty quickly for him when his pocket isn’t clean.

8. Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert

Getty Image / Justin Herbert

Last Week: 12/18, 66.7%, 125 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 43/64, 67.2%, 399 yds, 4 TD, 1 INT

Until leaving the game with a re-aggravated high ankle sprain, Herbert continued to run the Chargers offense with precision. As the season goes on and his young weapons improve, expect the passing attack in Los Angeles to become considerably more prolific. We all know that Herbert has shown he can be one of the league’s most explosive passers.

7. Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford

Getty Image / Ronald Martinez

Last Week: 16/25, 64%, 221 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 69/101, 68.3%, 754 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT

The Rams trailed by as much as 14 and by 10 in the 4th quarter as they looked sure to lose to the 49ers and fall to 0-3. But, Matthew Stafford proved why he is one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Operating without Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, Stafford was fantastic down the stretch. If he can keep the Rams afloat until he gets his weapons back, Stafford could make another deep playoff run with the team given the level he’s playing at.

6. New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers

Getty Image / Al Bello

Last Week: 27/35, 77.1%, 281 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 58/86, 67.4%, 624 yds, 5 TD, 1 INT

Rodgers looked very much like a quarterback recovering from a torn Achilles in a Week 1 loss to San Francisco. Since, he’s looked like a guy who may belong on an all-time quarterback Mount Rushmore. Rodgers sliced and diced the Patriots defense all Thursday night long. You can see him gaining chemistry with his weapons in real time. Aaron Rodgers competing for the MVP is not that far-fetched.

5. Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow

Getty Image / CINCINNATI, OH - SEPTEMBER 23: Joe Burrow #9 of the Cincinnati Bengals warms up before kickoff against the Washington Commanders during an NFL football game at Paycor Stadium on September 23, 2024 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images)

Last Week: 29/38, 76.3%, 324 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 73/103, 70.9%, 746 yds, 5 TD, 0 INT

Yes, the Bengals are 0-3, a record from which no team has ever won the Super Bowl. But, Burrow did all he could on Monday night from preventing that from happening. Burrow looks like the player that many considered the second-best quarterback in the league behind Patrick Mahomes in 2021 and 2022. Now, the Bengals need to start finding ways to win games.

4. Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson

Getty Image / Lamar Jackson

Last Week: 12/15, 80%, 182 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 59/90, 65.6%, 702 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT

The Ravens only needed to throw the ball 15 times against the porous Dallas run defense. But, Jackson was incredibly efficient in those reps, and helped in the run game, as well. When the team needed to get the job done in the four-minute offense to kill the game off after a furious Dallas comeback that included an onside kick recovery, it was Jackson who made the winning play to get the team its first win.

3. Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud

Getty Image / Brace Hemmelgarn

Last Week: 20/31, 64.5%, 215 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT
Season Stats: 67/99, 67.7%, 709 yds, 4 TD, 2 INT

Stroud had a rare shaky performance early in his career against the Vikings last weekend. But, Brian Flores’ defense is flummoxing everyone this year. Stroud remains one of the best pure throwers of the football from the pocket in the league. Expect a big bounce-back against a terrible Jaguars team this weekend.k

2. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Getty Image

Last Week: 26/39, 67%, 217 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT
Season Stats: 64/92, 69.6%, 659 yds, 5 TD, 4 INT

This has not been vintage Patrick Mahomes in the early going. Teams are taking away Travis Kelce, and maybe the star tight end has lost a step, too. That seems to be hurting Mahomes’ efficiency and decision-making, especially in the red zone. Has he been the second-best quarterback in the league through three weeks? Probably not. Are you betting against him going forward? Only if you’re a fool.

1. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen

Getty Image / kevin sabitus

Last Week: 23/30, 76.7%, 263 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT
Season Stats: 54/72, 75%, 635 yds, 7 TD, 0 INT

Josh Allen was voted as the most overrated quarterback in the NFL by an anonymous group of players. The 11% of players that voted him as the most overrated quarterback must regret that choice. As someone who thought Allen should’ve been MVP last season, this has been a rewarding start to the season. He has been, without a doubt, the best quarterback in the league so far this season. Right now, he’s the total package. The arm strength and athleticism has always been there. Now, he’s an elite decision-maker, processor, and the accuracy is as good as anyone’s in the league. Allen is helping a young group of skill position players improve rapidly. If you weren’t impressed by his demolition of Jacksonville on Monday Night Football, you’ll never be impressed. Right now, he’s first on these rankings by a considerable margin.
