Every so often a PGA Tour pro wakes up and simply cannot miss the center of the club face. Putts track to the cup like a heat-seeking missile. And on those rare occasions, their true strokes gained against the field are incredible.
Below, we see the 15 best rounds of golf ever played on the PGA Tour ranked by True SG. These aren’t the raw ‘lowest’ scores in PGA Tour history, they’re the best rounds ever when compared to the competition. The guys who truly went out and blew away the field.
I should mention there have been incredible rounds of competitive golf that weren’t on the PGA Tour like Ryo Ishikawa’s 58 (+11.91 SG) on the Japan Golf Tour or Joaquin Niemann’s 59 at LIV Golf Mayakoba (+11.51 SG). But these scores are strictly the best single rounds from the PGA Tour. Interestingly, 15 golfers have broken 60 on the PGA Tour but only 4 of those rounds made it into the best single rounds of all-time based on Strokes Gained.

The PGA Tour has seen tens of thousands of scores logged throughout the years and very few come close to the greatness we see here. These are the 15 greatest single rounds in PGA Tour history.
To determine these rankings we simply turned to the True SG (Strokes Gained) rating. That adjusts not just for a player’s performance against the field that week but it also adjusts for their performance against the PGA Tour average over the course of the season.
For context, J.J. Spaun was +4.36 SG over the field for the entire U.S. Open. Jim Furyk has more than doubled that on two separate occasions in a single round! Without further ado, these are the 15 best single rounds in PGA Tour history.
15. Jim Furyk, 2016 Travelers Championship

At the 2016 Travelers Championship, Jim Furyk made history with the first 12-under ’58’ in PGA Tour history. Furyk’s 58 was an astounding +10.90 strokes gained on the field.
His round started with a par followed by birdie-eagle-birdie-par-birdie-birdie-birdie-birdie for a front-9 score of 27. Jim would stay hot on the back with 4 more birdies, including the first three holes on the back-9 which gave him 7 birdies in a row during that round. Unreal.
Furyk would finish t5th for the tournament at -11 despite shooting -12 in the final round.
14. Cameron Tringale, 2022 Genesis Scottish Open

Cameron Tringale was unstoppable in the first round of the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open. He fired off a 1st round score of 61 (-9) with 3 birdies on the front and 6 on the back. Tringale’s +10.90 adjusted SG for that 61 makes it the 14th best round in PGA Tour history.
Unfortunately, winning wasn’t in the cards for him that week. He shot a 72 (+2) in the 2nd round, 74 (+4) in the 3rd round, and finished Sunday with an even par 70 to end in a tie for 6th place.
13. Bryson DeChambeau, 2021 BMW Championship

In the 2nd round of the 2021 BMW Championship, a week ahead of the TOUR Championship, Bryson DeChambeau put together the best round of competitive golf of his PGA Tour or LIV Golf career. He fired a -12 score of 60 at the Caves Valley Golf Club which was good for +10.91 SG on the field.
Bryson would eventually lose the tournament to Patrick Cantlay that week in a 6-hole playoff despite Bryson finishing at -27. During his round of 60, Bryson had an eagle on the front and back with 8 other birdies for a combined 29-31 score. 29 on the front!
12. Gary Player, 1984 PGA Championship

At the 1984 PGA Championship held at Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama, Gary Player captured lightning in a bottle in the 2nd round and shot a 63 which was good for +10.91 SG (True) on the field.
Gary got off to a slow start with a +2 74 on Thursday but came roaring back with the 63 to be tied for the lead going into the weekend. He would eventually finish tied for 2nd place and 4 strokes behind winner Lee Trevino who shot under 70 for every round of the 1984 PGA.
11. Nick Taylor, 2024 WM Phoenix Open

The most recent round in the top 15 single best rounds in PGA Tour history is the 1st round 60 from Canadian Nick Taylor at the 2024 WM Phoenix Open which was good for +10.91 SG on the field.
Nick went 31-29 for 1st round 60 with 5 birdies on the front and a blistering 6 birdies on the back. Managing to shoot 60 with no eagles has to feel like a cheat code. He would then go wire-to-wire and beat Charley Hoffman in 2-hole playoff on Sunday after Nick Taylor birdied 18 twice in a row. Truly a masterclass.
10. Tiger Woods, 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

Tiger Woods ran away with the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after a second round score of 61 which was good for +10.92 SG (true), making it the 10th single best round in PGA Tour history.
In true Tiger Woods fashion, once he got the lead he held onto it, firing off rounds of 66-61-68-70 to beat the field by a whopping 7 strokes at Firestone.
Tiger Woods has had many memorable rounds throughout his career, more than I could begin to call out or mention here, but this one was statistically his best round on the PGA Tour as a professional.
9. George Burns, 1983 Kemper Open, 1st round

George Burns holds the oldest round in the top 15 on this list of the best single rounds in PGA Tour. It came in the 1st round at the 1983 Kemper Open when Burns fired off a 64 which was a whopping +10.93 SG on the field that week. Just incredible golf!
8. Rory McIlroy, 2010 Quail Hollow Championship

At the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship aka Wells Fargo Championship, Rory McIlroy went beast mode in the final round and shot a blistering 62 which was good for +10.95 SG (true) on the field and it sealed the win for Rory.
McIlroy had 4 birdies on the front and 4 on the back along with an eagle on the 15th hole. The 62 would put him a comfortable 4 strokes in front of Phil Mickelson who finished in solo second place that week.
7. David Duval, 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

At the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, a tournament that uniquely featured 5 rounds of golf instead of the usual 4, David Duval had a 5th round score of 59 at the Palmer Course at PGA West in La Quinta, California, his lowest round throughout his competitive golf career. That round was a whopping +11.03 SG on the field and it is still in the books as the 7th best single round in PGA Tour history.

6. Ken Duke, 2016 The Players Championship

Ken Duke finished in a 4-way tie for 3rd place in 2013 at The Players Championship. His 3rd round score of 65…yes, you read that right, 65, put him on Page 1 of the leader board.
You must be thinking ‘how could a 65 be the 6th best round in PGA Tour history?’ Well, it was good for +11.18 SG (true) after they ‘lost the course’ and scoring was incredibly difficult on Saturday. There were only 3 scores in round 3 under 70. Ken Duke’s 65, Hideki Matsuyama’s 67, and Graeme McDowell’s 69. Everyone else got beat up by TPC Sawgrass that day while Ken Duke crushed it.
5. Scottie Scheffler, 2020 The Northern Trust

© Mark Konezny-Imagn Images
It is hard to remember but back in 2020 the Scottie Scheffler we know now had yet to emerge on the PGA Tour as the most dominant World #1 golfer since Tiger Woods. But there were signs!
In the 2nd round of the 2020 The Northern Trust, Scottie Scheffler fired off a 59 for +11.20 SG (true) on the field making it the 5th best single round in PGA Tour history. Scottie would finish t4th that week after going 70-59-67-71 and with the magic he had on the course that day, and in the years since, it is hard to imagine a world where Scheffler doesn’t put together another round in his career to get on this list again.
4. Jose Maria Olazabal, 1990 NEC World Series of Golf

© The Augusta Chronicle-USA TODAY NETWORK
At the 1990 NEC World Series of Golf held at Firestone Golf Club, José María Olazábal was simply in a field of his own. He had no competition that week.
José María Olazábal shot a 1st round score of 61 which was +11.22 SG (true) and he would stay strong to win the tournament by a whopping 12 strokes, by far the largest margin of victory in the history of that tournament. The second largest margin of victory at the NEC World Series of Golf was 5 strokes in 1977 and in 1993.
3. John Huston, 1996 Memorial Tournament

© Rob Schumacher-Arizona Republic
At the Muirfield Village Golf Club during the 1996 Memorial Tournament, John Huston set the course on fire in the second round with an 11-under par 61 for +11.66 true SG on the field. Remember when I said J.J. Spaun’s entire 2025 U.S. Open was just +4.36 SG?! John Huston had +11.66 true SG in one single round.
After the round, John Huston would tell reporters “I was in a zone. It’s kind of like playing with the banks money in Vegas. You just don’t feel like you can lose.”
2. J.B. Holmes, 2015 WGC-Cadillac Championship

© Jason Getz-Imagn Images
Dustin Johnson won the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Championship but it was J.B. Holmes who stole the show with his first round 62 which, with +12.02 adjusted SG, is the 2nd best single round of golf in PGA Tour history.
Holmes was *this close* from going wire to wire but he lost by 1 to DJ with a 75 (+3) on Sunday. His tournament could not have started any better, though. J.B. Holmes came out birdie-birdie-eagle to be 4-under through 3 holes. He’d add 2 more birdies on his first 9 (-6) and then 4 more on the back for a -10 score of 62.
1. Jim Furyk, 2013 BMW PGA Championship

Brett Davis-Imagn Images
On September 13, 2013, Jim Furyk made PGA Tour history by firing the lowest score in the history of the tour. Furyk must’ve woke up feeling dangerous that day and he went out to fire off a 12-under round of 59. In terms of strokes gained on the field, that round has a +12.09 raw rating and +13.09 once adjusted to account for all “average performance in PGA Tour events in a given season” according to DataGolf, the database where these SG ratings were pulled form.
Jim Furyk had 6 birdies and 1 eagle… on the front-9. He stayed hot and had 5 birdies and one bogey on the back-9. It is, quite possibly, the best golf the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest outside of Chicago will ever see.
