The MLB season is here, and these ten players are top contenders for Rookie of the Year in their respective needs

Washington Nationals OF Dylan Crews

There were some that thought that Crews should’ve went over his LSU teammate Paul Skenes at the top of the 2023 MLB Draft. That says a lot about how Crews was viewed as a prospect. He’s done nothing to dampen that. The five-tool player is off to a horrific start so far, but that won’t last. His plus contact and power skills will shine through.

Chicago Cubs IF Matt Shaw

Shaw was a first-round pick for Chicago in 2023 out of Maryland renowned for his ability at the plate. He tore up the minors, tallying an OPS over .900. The Cubs are expecting him to be an above-average Major League hitter this year, and that would put him in contention for the award.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Roki Sasaki

Sasaki established himself as the second-best young pitcher in the world behind Paul Skenes by dominating in Japan in his age 19-22 seasons. Yes, his first two outings in the USA have not been good, as he’s struggled mightily with control. But, he’s going to settle in and become one of the league’s better pitchers soon enough.

PIttsburgh PIrates SP Bubba Chandler

Chandler, who is considered by some to be the top pitching prospect in baseball that is still in the minors, will be up to the big-league club soon to compliment Paul Skenes and the currently-injured Jared Jones. He has the stuff to have a sensational year after his call-up, putting him ROY contention.

Atlanta Braves SP AJ Smith-Shawver

AJ Smith-Shawver is being thrust into the Braves rotation in his age 22 season. Given the fact that we’ve seen the Braves get a lot out of young pitchers before, and a solid prospect like Smith-Shawver should be taken seriously as a ROY candidate.

Boston Red Sox 2B Kristian Campbell

Campbell, a top-five prospect heading into the season according to many, won the Red Sox 2B job during camp and has instantly done a ton of damage in their lineup. Campbell is considered by many to be the favorite to win ROY in the AL.

New York Yankees OF Jasson Dominguez

The hype has always exceeded what prospect scouts thought about the player they call “The Martian”, but that’s not to say that Dominguez doesn’t have incredible talent. His raw power means that he could hit 30+ home runs this year, which would make him tough to beat.

Boston Red Sox OF Roman Anthony

Anthony, the consensus top outfield prospect in baseball, will be up to the big leagues soon enough. When he’s there, expect him to instantly become one of the league’s better hitters and a quick contender for Rookie of the Year.

Athletics SS Jacob Wilson

Jacob Wilson can flat-out rake. The former first-round pick had an OPS over over 1.000 in the minor leagues. If that translates to the big league club this year, even at 200 or 250 points lower, he will be a bona fide contender for ROY.

Detroit Tigers SP Jackson Jobe

Jackson Jobe has been considered an exciting pitching prospect since high school. He has top-tier stuff, and if he puts it all together, he could finish with a Rookie of the Year-caliber season.
