6 College Football Teams In The Top 25 Most Likely To Lose In Week 6

The 2024 college football season has already treated us to a number of shocking upsets involving teams in the Top 25, and it seems like there’s a chance we’ll end up being treated to at least a couple more based on how things are looking heading into Week 6.

The past few weeks of the college football season have featured multiple matchups between teams in the Top 25, but this one is relatively quiet on that front when you consider there’s only one on the slate.

There are also a number of ranked teams going up against opponents that shouldn’t pose any threat at all, but there are still a handful that have their work cut out for them in Week 6.

Missouri has gotten off to a 4-0 start and previously dispatched a Top 25 team in the form of Boston College, but they’ll be facing their biggest test of the season so far against a Texas A&M team that tied with UNLV for the #25 spot this week.

The Aggies are actually listed as 2.5-point favorites with home-field advantage on their side and could get a major boost if Conner Weigman is healthy enough to make his return after missing the past few starts due to injury.

However, the Tigers are still facing a stiff battle even if Marcel Reed ends up getting another start.

#10 Michigan

At first glance, you’d probably assume Michigan would be favored over an unranked Washington team that’s gone 3-2 after losing former head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama in the offseason, but the Huskies are also 2.5-point favorites at home.

Why? Well, Michigan is sitting at 4-1 in spite of quarterback issues that have emerged as the team’s Achilles’ heel, and the Wolverines didn’t look that impressive while eking out a 27-24 win over Minnesota last week.

The Huskies are also out for some revenge after losing in the national championship last year, and Michigan can expect to be greeted by a very hungry team on the gridiron.

Speaking of Minnesota…

The Golden Gophers will be hosting USC on Saturday, and while they head into the contest as 8-point underdogs with a 2-3 record, they showed what have what it takes to pull off an upset despite ultimately losing to Michigan.

Minnesota has a solid offense that has the potential to exploit a USC defense that’s shown plenty of flaws, and the fact that the Trojans previously fell to Michigan suggests their opponents will have what it takes to hang with them.

#12 Ole Miss

I’d be lying if I said I actually expect South Carolina to beat Ole Miss this weekend as 9-point underdogs, but the Rebels have shown they’re a vulnerable team after losing to Kentucky in a game the Wildcats seemingly had no business winning on paper.

Ole Miss will be heading into the road game with a chip on its shoulder while trying to prove last week was a fluke, but South Carolina knows it has the chance to improve to 4-1 with a statement win in front of a friendly crowd that will be rocking on Saturday afternoon.

#22 Louisville

Louisville suffered a setback with a loss to Notre Dame last week, and they need a win in a fairly pivotal ACC showdown against an SMU squad that’s sitting a 4-1.

The Cardinals are listed as 7-point favorites at home, but the Mustangs have won six games in a row on the road. Both sides boast a fairly formidable offense, and if SMU can get its defense in order, they’ll be able to give a penalty-prone Louisville team a run for its money.

#25 Texas A&M

The Aggies may be slight favorites, and even though both sides have an impressive offense, Missouri has some receiving weapons capable of making some incredibly explosive plays that can swing the momentum in their favor in the blink of an eye.

Texas A&M has also not fared very well against ranked opponents over the past couple of seasons, as a loss to Missouri would mark the seventh consecutive game where they were unable to defeat a team in the Top 25.
