San Diego Angler’s First-Ever Roosterfish Weighed 110+ Pounds And Sniffed 64-Year-Old Fishing World Record

Angler Jamie Allen, co-owner of San Diego Fish Processing, took a fishing trip to Puerto Vallarta last month to catch her first-ever roosterfish and it was a straight-up whopper. Some anglers fish their entire lives and never sniff a roosterfish this large.

Once it was weighed, her gargantuan roosterfish tipped the scales at 110.23 pounds which is less than 4 pounds off the IGFA fishing world record for roosterfish which was caught 60 years ago in Baja California, Mexico by angler Abe Sackheim.

As is typical with roosterfish fishing, she was fishing just offshore which makes for a cool sight when battling these massive fish. The San Diego Fish Processing co-owner told BroBible she has only been fishing for 5 years and has nearly checked off all the fish on her pelagic gamefish bucket list after catching her first roosterfish, the only ‘bucket list’ fish she has left to catch now according to Jamie is a sailfish:

Allen landed the 110+ pound roosterfish fishing with an Avet SX5 reel rigged with 40lb test line on a 6-foot rod. Her fish ended up measuring 64 inches long with a 33-inch girth. Here are some additional photos of her fish that was less than 4 pounds off of the existing IGFA fishing world record:

Can you believe the shoulders on that fish! That would turn your forearms into mush.

Jamie also shared a TikTok clip of her battling the fish. She told WONews that this absolute unit of a rooster was “definitely one of the hardest catches of my life.”

Back from an amazing trip in Puerto Vallarta with the biggest catch of my life! 🥰 I’m still in awe 💙 this Monster Rooster fish measured out at 64” long and 33” in girth and about 50 kilos. I am now the NEW Record Holder for the largest Rooster fish EVER caught in Mexico’s History. The last largest recorded Rooster was 62” long, so I beat the record by 2”. Also broke the Woman’s World Record!!! WHAAAAAAAT!!! I cannot thank my husband enough for being my biggest cheerleader @Brett 💙🎣 uhhhh life is amazing! Cant stop, wont stop! I cannot wait ti get my mount of this beauty and hang it in my office @San Diego Fish Processing #RoosterQueen🐟 #puertovallarta #worldrecordroosterfish #mexicorecordfish #trophy #roosterfish #coupleswhofishtogetherstaytogether #mwlures

I’m seething with jealous over this catch. Not that I ever expect to catch a 110+ pound roosterfish in my lifetime, but I’ve gone fishing for roosters 3x in Costa Rica and I’ve still yet to catch one. I’ve caught some epic fish on those trips and they’re some of my all-time favorite memories but I’ve still yet to reel in a rooster. My next rooster trip is going to be in Panama to give myself more of a chance (less fishing pressure) but after seeing Jamie Allen’s near-world record fish

Major congratulations go out to Jamie and her crew at San Diego Fish Processing on this incredible catch!
