LeBron James is the greatest NBA player of his generation and that much is not up for debate. He has been a superstar since he was in middle school and is the rare exception to the rule where someone hyped up at the earliest of ages lives up to the hype and then some.
Here we break down some LeBron James trivia with 16 LeBron James facts that highlight just how outrageous of a career and life he has had. Off the court he has made billions. On the court he has set more records than we can keep up with.
16 LeBron James Facts That Don’t Even Sound Real
LeBron’s ascension to the throne began before he ever stepped foot on an NBA court back in 2003. And he has remained dominant ever since. Now without further ado, let’s dive into these LeBron James facts and trivia.
1. Youngest #1 NBA Draft Pick In History

When LeBron James was drafted #1 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft he became the youngest #1 draft pick in NBA history, a record that will stay intact unless the NBA makes a major rule change. That is because in 2006 NBA Draft eligibility was changed to require players are (1) 19 years old and (2) at least 1 year removed from high school.
LeBron went to the NBA straight from high school, with other NBA greats had up to that point, but he was still younger than all of them and ultimately more successful.
2. Most NBA All-Star Selections Ever

When it comes to the NBA All-Star Game, LeBron James is in a league of his own. He has 3 more NBA All Star selections than any other player in history, with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar trailing him at #2 with 19 to LeBron’s 22.
LeBron has been named Team Captain 7 times and was awarded MVP on three occasions. He missed the 2025 All-Star Game due to an injury but still received the selection.
3. The Greatest Scorer In NBA History

LeBron James has scored 43,290 regular points and counting in his career. He is the only player in NBA history to score over 40,000 points and he passed Kareem at #2 with 38,387 points on February 7, 2023.
The only other active NBA players who are also in the top 10 of the most points scored in NBA history are Kevin Durant with 32,409 points (5th all time) and James Harden with 29,221 points (9th all time).
4. He Could Dunk In Middle School

While most 8th graders are grappling with puberty and adolescence, LeBron James was already growing into the most dominant player of his generation. He learned to dunk a basketball in 8th grade and pulled off his first in-game dunk at school in a Teachers vs Students game, dunking on one of his teachers. By 10th grade, LeBron could already palm a full NBA-sized basketball.
5. Connected By Birth (Location) To Steph Curry

LeBron picked up his nickname ‘King James’ during high school in Akron, Ohio where he was born and raised. He is also referred to as ‘The Akron Hammer.’
Another NBA legend born in Akron a few years after LeBron was Steph Curry. Steph was born in Akron in 1988 while his father, Dell Curry, was finishing up a stint playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the club that LeBron James would be drafted by and change the entire landscape of Cleveland sports with… What are they putting in the water in Akron??
6. He Could’ve Gone Pro Outside Of Basketball

LeBron is a freak of an athlete and I mean that in the best of ways. He stands 6’9″, weighs 250 pounds, is packed full of muscle, has a 7′ wingspan, and was an absolutely dominate wide receiver before he gave up football.
King James was named First Team All State during his Junior year of high school while playing wide receiver. He received offers from colleges to come play WR, including one from Notre Dame. And most scouts were on solid agreement that LeBron could have gone to the NFL as a wide receiver if he pursued football instead of basketball.
7. LeBron James And The H2 Connection

In high school, decades before NIL became a reality, LeBron James was investigated for accepting a $50,000+ Hummer H2 for his 18th birthday, the first of many extravagant cars in his career. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) looked into it and found that his mother, Gloria James, had secured a loan to purchase the vehicle and he was cleared.
Flash forward a few years and LeBron James is releasing his first signature shoe with Nike. That Nike Air Zoom Generation (2003) design was based on the white H2 that LeBron had received for his 18th birthday.
8. He Made Generational Wealth Before Entering The NBA

Speaking of Nike, before LeBron James ever stepped foot on an NBA court he was already wealthier than most of the people in the league. By signing a $90 million contract with Nike at 18 years old, he was worth nearly $100 million before ever scoring his first NBA points.
Of course, $90 million is very different money to King James these days. In 2015, he signed a lifetime endorsement contract with Nike that is estimated to be valued at over $1 billion.
9. Highest Paid NBA Player In History

Now that we have established that LeBron James was a billionaire from earnings off the court, let’s take a look at what he has earned on the court. For his rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2003, LeBron was paid
$4,018,290 and won rookie of the year.
Once he got through his rookie contract he began printing money hand over fist. By 2007, LeBron was earning $13,041,250. He never looked back. This season he is getting paid $52,627,153 by the Lakers.
LeBron James has the most career earnings of any NBA player in history with $581,375,548 in total. Kevin Durant is second with $501,135,653.
10. Started Setting NBA Records Immediately

We could spend literally all day just going over the records he has set throughout his NBA time. But LeBron James got to work on Day 1, scoring 25 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals in 42 minutes. The 25 points was the most-ever points scored by an NBA player who came straight out of high school.
11. He Has Scored In Every Game He’s Ever Played In

This stat blows my mind because at some point you would think he’d be injured and would hit the bench before having a chance to score. But LeBron James has scored in every single game he has ever played in, all 1,855 of them, and holds the NBA record for the most consecutive games scoring points.
12. Makes A Lot, Misses A Lot

When you are the NBA’s all-time leading scorer you take tens of thousands of shots. He has scored 50,473 Regular Season and Playoffs points combined, making 18,459 field goals along the way.
The flip side of that is LeBron James also holds the NBA record for the most shots missed. He has missed 18,108 field goals out of 36,567 FGs attempted, another NBA record.
13. LeBron James Thrives Under Pressure

Jerome Miron-Imagn Images
King James has won 4 NBA Championships in his career: 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2020. He also also won 4 NBA Finals MVP Awards: 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2020. When LeBron gets to the finals he hits that next gear and elevates his team.
Interestingly, of the four times LeBron James won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013) only two of those came in years when he won a championship.
14. Shares His Birthday With Another G.O.A.T.

With 365 days on the calendar, the odds of two of the greatest athletes in their respective sports sharing the same birthday are not great but December 30th must have some sort of magnetic attraction to greatness. LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984. December 30th just so happens to be the same day Eldrick Tont Woods was born.
LeBron James and Tiger Woods sharing the same birthday is just incredible. I like to imagine them texting each other every year about how many more tens of millions of dollars they made that year and then going to out celebrate on their massive yachts. They also share the same birthday as Matt Lauer and Ellie Goulding but Tiger Woods and LeBron James tied together with the same bday is special.
15. Captain America?

After settling for a bronze medal in his 2004 Olympics debut, LeBron James’ Olympic record has been flawless. He has helped lead Team USA to gold in 2008, 2012, and in 2024.
16. A Shrewd Investor

LeBron James reportedly owned a small sliver of Beats which when it was sold to Apple for $3 billion in 2024 he made $30 million. He had an early stake in the massively successful Blaze Pizza chain.
LeBron is a part owner/minority share holder in Fenway Sports Group which owns Liverpool FC and the Red Sox among other holdings. He was an early investor in Lobos 1707 Tequila. Has amassed one of the best real estate portfolios of any professional athlete. He also has stakes in AC Milan, Tonal, Lyft, and countless other incredible investments.
