Aaron Judge is an overnight star in the world of baseball. He leads the Major League with 14 home runs so far this season, and he’s batting .316 through the first month and a half.
Being a superstar athlete in NYC comes with baggage you don’t see in any other city in America. There are more newspapers and media outlets in New York than anywhere else, and the city loves a star. So when a new face is performing at an all-star level all of the city’s press is pointed in his direction. You’d think that with all this coverage, most New Yorkers would actually know who Aaron Judge is and what he looks like (not to be confused with Adam Judge)…You’d be wrong.
Aaron Judge teamed up with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to sit down with unsuspecting Yankees fans. I say ‘sit down’ because if he was standing the fans would’ve instantly known who he was, the dude is 6’7″ and stands out like a sore thumb.
I don’t necessarily blame Yankees fans for not recognizing him immediately. I’m sure there were plenty of fans who did recognize him and were cut from this sketch. Heck, I couldn’t spot half of the Tampa Bay Rays roster in a lineup. It’s just funny to think about how famous this man is going to be one day in NYCand how he’s still able to live in relative obscurity right now. Enjoy it while it lasts…
