After it seemed like the only losing teams like the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans were going to be interested in Aaron Rodgers this offseason, new reports indicate that the Pittsburgh Steelers are now considering bringing in the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

With free agency set to begin this week, the Steelers’ quarterback situation is beginning to crystalize, with both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields — who started for the Steelers at QB next season — set to enter free agency.

According to a Monday morning report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the controversial 41-year-old signal caller has “emerged as an option.” Per league rules, NFL teams are allowed to begin speaking with impending free agents on Monday, March 10, while signings and trades can be finalized on Wednesday, March 12.

Last week, the New York Giants were the betting favorites to land Rodgers. Now, the Steelers are the favorites with odds of +125. The Seattle Seahawks are now also in the mix after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders.

“Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to talk, sources told Schefter, and explore a union between the four-time MVP and longtime coach Mike Tomlin.”

“Another potential quarterback solution for the Steelers would be re-signing Fields, who remains in talks with Pittsburgh and the Jets, sources told Schefter. New York cannot offer Fields a contract until noon ET Monday, so he will continue to mull his options and learn more about the Jets’ overall situation, sources told Schefter.” [via ESPN]

During the 2024 season with the Jets, Rodgers — in his only season as the team’s starting QB, leading them to a disappointing 5-12 record — completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 17 starts. If you combine their stats from the 2024 season, Wilson and Fields completed 64.7% of their passes for 3,588 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
