New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is back from wherever he was that was more important than being at mandatory minicamp with his teammates, says Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who worked out with Rodgers this week.
After skipping Jets’ mandatory minicamp for an event that was “important” to him, speculation about where Aaron Rodgers went ran rampant, with suggestions ranging from a beach vacation to an ayahuasca retreat.
While Rodgers has yet to confirm where he was or what he was doing, MVS says he’s back as he worked out with him in Los Angeles.
“Me and Aaron have been great friends since I had been in Green Bay. I hit him up, told him I was coming out to LA, and said, ‘Let’s run some routes,’” Valdes-Scantling said during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Thursday, June 27.
“So we got it in. Went out to some high school and ran some routes together. We’re good. It was good.”
Valdes-Scantling, who signed with the Buffalo Bills this offseason, spent four seasons with Rodgers in Green Bay from 2018-2021. It’s unclear if Rodgers has worked out with any Jets receivers since returning from his trip, such as the newly-signed Mike Williams.
Despite being back from wherever it is he was, Rodgers has yet to go on The Pat McAfee Show or The Tucker Carlson Show or any of the fringe podcasts he’s been interviewed on in recent months to address his absence from the Jets minicamp.
Rodgers’ decision certainly sparked plenty of sports media outrage, with both talking head personalities like Nick Wright and former NFL QBs such as Shaun King labeling Rodgers the most self-centered and selfish quarterback of his generation.
The New York Jets will be reporting for its official training camp in about a month, with rookies reporting on July 18 before the veterans, such as Rodgers, show up on July 23.
