Aaron Rodgers Reflects On Adding To And Not Breaking The Jets’ 14-Year-Long Playoff Drought

Aaron Rodgers has etched his name into New York Jets’ history, although not in the way he would have hoped. Instead of being the quarterback to break the Jets’ 13-year-long playoff drought, which is exactly what he was brought to New York to do, Rodgers added to the misery and quarterbacked the franchise to a 14th straight playoff-less campaign.

Ironically, in the Jets’ Week 14 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the controversial 41-year-old four-time NFL MVP also had his best game as the Jets’ starting quarterback, as he completed 27-39 for 339 yards and a touchdown, which marked the first time he’s threw for over 300 yards in a game since December 12, 2021.

After the game, Rodgers was asked about the Jets not making the playoffs since the 2010 season and gave the questioning reporter quite a terse response.

“I mean, I’ve been here, I’ve started one year, so, I’m a part of it for one year. It’s disappointing,” Rodgers bristled when asked about the Jets’ pitiful 14-year-long playoff drought.

Rodgers decision to mention the fact that he’s only been a starter for the Jets for one season is the defense that he thinks it is, as the team was actually better off with noted draft bust Zach Wilson at QB last year than they have been this year with the future Hall of Famer.

Last season, despite losing Rodgers to an Achilles tear in the first game of the 2023 season, the Jets were able to finish the season with a 7-10 record.

In order to win seven games this year, Gang Green will have to win their final four games of the season (against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins), which certainly won’t happen considering they’ve lost 8 of their last 9 games.

With the Jets set to hire both a new general manager and head coach, Rodgers future with the team is unclear, although most signs seem to be pointing to a split between him and Gang Green after just two years and only three wins.
