This New York Jets season was supposed to be different. With a healthy Aaron Rodgers and loaded roster, the playoffs were the expectation.
It’s safe to say that the playoffs are not in the Jets’ future. After another loss, this time a 28-27 defeat at the hands of the Colts, they’re 3-8.
Not only are they 3-8, but the quarterback they brought in to replace their 2021 NFL Draft bust Zach Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, now has a worse winning percentage than Wilson did!
Take a look.
Winning % as Jets starting QB:
Zach Wilson .364
Sam Darnold .342
Aaron Rodgers .273— Steve Palazzolo (@StevePalazzolo_) November 17, 2024
That’s quite the indictment on the 2024 New York Jets, the entire organization, the media surrounding the Jets, and their fans. The narrative for the entirety of Wilson’s tenure in New York was that he and he alone was the reason that the Jets weren’t any good. If the team had competent quarterback play, they’d be a playoff team.
Here we are. Aaron Rodgers has been handed this team with a good roster on paper, a roster largely influenced by his own desires. The Jets are terrible. They appear lifeless every week, they consistently find ways to lose games, and overall it’s completely dysfunctional.
That’s not to say that Zach Wilson wasn’t part of the problem. The second-overall pick didn’t develop into a quality starting quarterback like the franchise hoped. But, I think it’s fair to question whether that was because he simply wasn’t talented enough or wasn’t cut out for it, or if the franchise is so dysfunctional that no one could ever succeed there.
After all, Sam Darnold looks like a competent NFL starting quarterback this season in Minnesota. He was also terrible as a Jet. Rodgers is playing the worst football of his career, so it may not even be an Aaron Rodgers issue. The only common thread is owner Woody Johnson, who cannot seem to get this team to function.
