It turns out that — despite the protests of Aaron Rodgers at the time — the Green Bay Packers’ decision to draft Jordan Love in the 1st round of the 2020 NFL Draft was the right one, as the 25-year-old has played well enough to become the highest-paid QB in the history of the league.

Jordan Love, who has been the starting quarterback in Green Bay for just one season, signed a four-year, $220 extension with the Packers in late July, giving him a yearly average salary of $55 million. With a $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in guaranteed money, Love’s contract is reportedly the richest in NFL history.

While appearing on NFL Network over the weekend, Aaron Rodgers spoke on Love’s contract, telling him to “not spend it all in one place.”

“I want to give a shoutout to Jordan Love becoming the highest-paid player in the NFL. J-Love, don’t spend it all in one place. But if you do, I still have a house in Green Bay up for sale,” Rodgers said.

During his first and only season as the Packers’ starting signal-caller, Love started in 17 games and led Green Bay to a 9-8 record. Love completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also led the Packers to a Wild Card round win over the Dallas Cowboys.

“I think the general reaction at first was surprise, like many people. Obviously, I’m not going to say that I was thrilled by the pick necessarily, but the organization is thinking not only about the present but about the future. And I respect that,” Rodgers’ said of the Packers’ decision to draft Love in 2020.

Drafting Love obviously lit a fire under Rodgers as he’d go on to win NFL MVP in both 2020 and 2021, bringing his total number of MVP awards to four.
